Thank you, Clint. It does tear up the soap but the soap then does a better job... And I don’t have any brushes that are nicknamed The Soap Destroyer...
So shave two today was not bad less razor burn. Closer better shave with 3 passes WTG, XTG, ATG. I have never really gone against the grain before so that is new to me. However I did the first two with my old cartridge razors. I’m thinking that’s one reason my face is irritated by it. May have to get used to it. But either way the menthol after shave sample help it feel amazing lol
I like trying other's gumbo for two reasons. First to see what they do different. Second for me not having to spend the time doing all that work! Last night I had supper with my folks. Mom made chicken noodle soup. She made egg noodles from scratch. I don't recall ever having them done that way. Now I know what store bought noodles are trying to act like.
There are several companies that sell AS Balm. It's a thicker lotion that may contain aloe vera, vitamin E, glycerin, and other components that sooth razor burn. The best solution is don't do it. Unlearning those cartridge habits - especially mashing the razor to your skin will be a big part. DE razors should use so little pressure against you face that it's like you are only wiping away the lather. The other difference from those flippy floppy carts - you control the angle of attack. I know there's a guard bar below the blade, but I get no razor burn because I hold the razor handle almost straight out from my face, then tip it until the blade starts hitting whiskers. The guard doesn't make much if any contact. For your WTG, pass you may be going from top to bottom but that sounds funny so let's say North to South. Good for the cheeks, but might not be true on some places on your neck. The XTG pass can be both East to West, and back again. Generally an ATG pass is South to North, but here's where you grip on the razor, pressure, and angle cause the most irritation. Many folks don't do an ATG for that reason. Not like it's an advanced maneuver, but it does require care and practice to avoid scraping. Good luck and keep at it. In a month you'll be shaving like a Pro!
You may consider holding off on the ATG pass until you get your technique down a bit. You used your cartridge for the first two passes? Do you always do multiple passes with a cartridge?
I think you need to ditch the cartridge. You'll be fine! Have you been doing multiple passes with a cartridge in the past? If so, I think you'll find a lot less irritation running a single blade over your face 2 or 3 times, rather than 3-5 blades 2 0r 3 times. You've got some good gear there- just lather up (that's a whole 'nother story), find your beard growth, use a super light touch and enjoy.
Some of the best gumbo I've had that wasn't homemade was in a place called Bayou on the Beach in Panama City. They have an entree called Tour of the Bayou that has bowls of seafood gumbo, chicken and andouille gumbo, jambalaya with tasso, and red beans and rice. It includes a side of fried pee wee rolls and I prefer to wash it all down with various Abita beers.
Mouthwatering photo! Some folks prefer single ingredient gumbos. I can see this menu item would give you the ability to taste each type of meat. Many of my gumbos are dictated by the "Pantry Cooking" method. That's looking in the freezer and/or pantry to see what's going in the cook pot tonight. One memorable batch happened when a friend moved from Atlanta back to Bogalosa, Louisiana. He cleared out his chest freezer. The gumbo had 14 kinds of meat.
Sorry, misinterpreted what you said. Thought you meant you were still using the cart for the first 2 passes.
OCtober!!! October 27 Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb Blade - (2) Pre-Shave - Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap from Stirling Soap - Tabac Brush - 30DC LE Post - Alum Second shave with the MMOC this time around and I added the pre-shave into this one. Between that and the focus on avoiding pressure the alum stayed quiet which is very nice. The 30 Day brush and Tabac worked perfectly together and I had no problems with two passes and some Gillette Slides. Guess they were Gem slides tonight. anyway, DFS is in the house and I'm perfectly happy with that. I was sorry it didn't take longer to shave as I was in the Zen groove tonight with it. One more go around with this setup tomorrow. Have a great weekend! Oh - for those following the latest haunted razor on ebay - the auction ended this evening with the razor unsold. I laughed pretty good at that. This one deserves to stay put until it's priced reasonably. Five bucks would be about right.
It happens I don’t always word things the best on the first try lol. I can see the confusion when I reread it
OCtober 2017 XXVI-XXVII October Back to back Grail Shaves on the Barbasol. It's just like brush foam, only more synthetic! OC has been good to me this month, Fatip has been easy and smooth. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a nice weekend!
I am back from my trip to the motherland and it no way I can catch up on this thread. It felt good to have a 'real' straight razor in my hand. I had more than 36 hours to shave off so I picked a big, heavy, sharp, smiling razor to make me right again. Just what I was hoping for an epic shave to mark my return home. Travel set up: Feather DX loaded with a Kai blade, Ikon SB with a Feather blade, Arko stick and The Verglude Hand soap. Had some nice shaves on the road.
