I am definitely sticking to this one till I get it down solid then I will branch out to others. I think the only change I am going to make is switch from arko stick to Stirling soap “wife isn’t to fond of the arko stick scent lol”. But until it is down everything else will be the same.
Keeping the wife happy is a good idea. Stirling and Arko lather a bit different for me, so take that into consideration. Minimizing the variables helps build your technique,
Wise move. Keeping variables to a minimum speeds up the entire learning process. You'll be amazed by the amount your technique will improve over the next month.
You're welcome Perry. Sharing cheap drug store aftershave is what it's all about! I'm glad I finally found it at like the sixth store. It was at Family Dollar Tree Dollar General store. I appreciate the stack of Personna Lab Blue blades you sent. That Route 66 Retro Spice soap sample is good stuff, too. It fit an Old Spice mug just right.
Razor: Gillette 1930's OC Ball End Made in Canada Blade: Personna Tungsten 74 (18) Brush: Elite Razor Tres Amigo w/ Sunset Synthetic Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Private Study A/S: Floid Amber A great week of shaving with these products. I probably could get another shave or two out of this blade, however, I'm changing razors tomorrow and the Personna 74 won't fit.
October Off Focus Route 66 Barbershop Hop B-400 Tuxedo brush Ming Shi 2000S razor Personna Lab Blue blade Alum, Triple Leather AS Opps, slipped off Focus, Blame the USPS for delivering my Futur clone two days early. Great lather from the lanolin enriched Route 66 soap. Perfect function out of the synthetic knot and ceramic bowl. I dropped a fresh blade in the new toy and started at setting .5. WTG didn't catch much so I relathered and bumped to 1.5. ATG still left a good deal of stubble. Upped the adjuster to 3.5 and took my XTG pass. Just about then I got a"Can you come to my jobsite and fix this right now?" phone call. Aborted the not quite SAS shave after a silent alum swipe, no burn AS splash. I did take this moment to post as I'll end up in the dark outside anyways. Good Shaves Y'all!
I hope the call doesn't keep you too out long. Looking forward to your more complete thoughts on the 2000S.
Really, I have to admit this is awesome. One of the best experiences of my life. I will remember this forever.
Another great shot, Doug. Are the leaves mostly done changing colour and falling in your area? Because the Floid seems to be the only thing left in fall colours in that photo. Nice run on the Personna 74.
Saturday October 28 - using odds and ends Supply Provision Single Edge injector on two-dot plate / Personna (7+) Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap sample end Alum and Lucky Tiger I tried the Dirty Deeds soap sample with the SOC brush tonight and managed to get a decent lather out of it again. Good enough for a two-pass near BBS from the Supply Provision injector on the middle plate. Now that I know I can make the Dirty Deeds soap work though, I have relegated the last of the sample sliver back to the handsoap dish. It's not a bad soap but still not one of my favorites. I also got one last shave out of the Personna blade and then put it in the blade bank tonight. I think for the last few days of October I will use up the blades in my other two injectors and bin them too. Hope the weekend is treating everybody well!
It was a good service call. For those that don't know I'm a semi-retired residential home builder. Currently I enjoy entirely too much free time (read that as underemployeed). When a call comes in I do reserve the right to refuse my services. With a bunch of miles on my carcass there are some things I choose to not do any more. This was an easy bit of manual labor. Referred by another happy customer, a disabled Veteran that trains service dogs had his sewage plant go blooie. Plumbing Service companies charge premium prices on a Saturday evening. I dug out some roots from amongst the (just keep telling yourself it's only) mud. Cleaned & dried the 1/2" aeration line that had broken, and the 3" line from the house that had come unglued. Swabbed in some PVC glue, stabbed in the fittings, and got paid quite well. The lady of the house made me a to-go plate of chicken and gravy over rice which I enjoyed. Both because she's a good cook, and I didn't have to make my own supper. The Ming Shi 2000S? I'll drop my review in this thread.
OCtober!!! October 28 Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb Blade - (3) Pre-Shave - Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap from Stirling Soap - Tabac Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Final shave for the MMOC this month and it's an excellent finish. Again, the alum was quiet, whether due to no pressure or the pre-shave or both. DFS finish and a smooth shave from start to finish. No complaints at all. I'm glad I got my hands on this razor for this month. It's a great addition to my limited SE collection and a great addition on its own right as well! Tomorrow night I'll go to the granddaddy of them all in my collection, the 1918 Old Style and I'll even throw a Feather in for the final three shaves. Let's go aggressive all the way on our way to NOVember!
