    That's what I figured.

Not sure when the last time you used mass produced toothpaste was, but  talk about mint! Most brands have too much, but a little is nice.

I highly recommend a toothpaste called Sea Fresh by Jason. It's unusual tasting, containing seasalt and algae or something in it. Nothing makes my mouth feel fresher. Last tube I bought had a little seal on it saying it won the American Culinary Instututes award for best taste.

NZ(New Zealand) Propolis & Manuka Toothpaste

Propolis is an interesting substance due to it's antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Unfortunately it is impossible to get an exact replications from the bees so the composition of the propolis will vary even with the same hive. It is used extensively in Brazil and many other countries.

I also have a propolis tincture that I use together with baking soda as a mouth wash.

For teeth whitening, I use the Crest White Strips. I'm slowly getting off all those red wine stains!

Here is an interesting post about propolis:

This article reminded me about a well-known substance’s potential use discovered by Dr Koo and Dr. Bowen. This substance is made by bees from plants and used like plaster to patch holes in the hive and coat dead insects for later disposal. Called propolis, the bees make it by collecting various secretions from trees and plants, chew it up, and spit it into beeswax where the concoction is mixed and then used where needed.

They discovered that when this is applied to rat’s teeth it decreased the cavity rate by 60 percent give or take. Since rats and humans share common dental problems, what works with rats should work with human dental.

Propolis has been in use since around 300 BC and can be found in common products like creams, lotions, and believe it or not, chewing gum. Because of its capability to act as an anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, and even anti-inflammatory, it has been discovered to aid in tissue regeneration. Thus it is used to help wounds heal faster, burn treatment, psoriasis, and even to control herpes. In Japan it is even used as a food additive.

The two doctors have discovered that two substances in propolis made by Brazilian bees target both the bacteria that form cavities and specific enzymes that create plaque. This bee spit attacks glucosyltransferase enzymes, which create glucans. Glucans are the building blocks that create a biofile commonly called plaque. Like the scum on the inside walls of a summer time water trough, this stuff allows bacteria to get a foothold on your teeth. Where the mini-critters setup housekeeping and crap acid on your teeth. The longer the plaque is allowed to remain, the larger the colony of bacteria becomes. Before long your gum line looks like Manhattan Island, congested with New Yorkers polluting your mouth but with the trash collectors, cleaners, construction, and maintenance workers on strike. Ew

Even the one-liter of saliva that the average human produces per day is far inferior to neutralize the gooey mass. Since the most common pathogen in the human mouth is Streptococcus mutans, they produce the greatest amount of plaque. Since it seems only this critter produces the GTF enzyme in our bodies, propolis is an excellent choice as a dental cavity preventative.

I use whatever my wife brings home (Hygienist), but it's usually some formulation of Crest.

Colgate whitening with baking soda and peroxide in the morning and Reach batman bubblegum in the evening.
The Colgate whitening because I just quit smoking a few weeks ago and I want to feel like I'm getting my teeth whiter, and the batman bubblegum because I hate the taste of wintergreen and mint. A couple of years ago they made a curious george strawberry banana flavor which was incredible.
My dad uses straight baking soda and he says you can drink a beer afterwords.

    Elgydium Anyone???

I have to admit I was surprised not to see a mention of Elgydium. Once you get past the sticker shock of your first tube, I guarantee you'll be saving all that spare change you find in the dryer or the couch for the next tube!! I know I do!:D

For that kind of price you can also buy a Rembrandt toothpaste.

I figured my tooth soap cost me about $1.00 and lasts longer than 6 months with twice daily use.

There is one toothpaste I know of that very clearly whitens one's teeth.

Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and Peroxide.

It's the only toothpaste I've scouted that actually has a chemical whitening agent in it.

It doesn't taste incredible but it leaves your mouth very fresh and, over time, sparkling.

If you have sensitive teeth or inflamed gums I've heard it can be irritating.

I rotate between the A&H mentioned above and plain old Colgate. Both work well and taste fine to me...

    really?

I actually take and press the shreds into a solid bar. I dont get good lather on my brush with the shreds. I really like using it and staying away from all the chemicals and glycerin in tooth paste

I've used it for the last 2 years or so. I get great dental check ups, so I'm sticking with it.
