Yep. I am CHEAP too! Cheap is the main reason I got into this hobby. However, after 7-8 years of hobby shaving, I have probably spent just as much or more acquiring other stuff than I have saved buying DE blades instead of carts. I have boxes full of DE razors and blades, Straight razors, brushes, soaps, creams, and other shaving paraphernalia. Fact is, before turning this daily chore into a hobby, I probably didn't pay very much attention to my shave. Now, it's all about trying different systems and getting the BBS result. I am not about to forsake my traditional equipment. I enjoy it all way too much. But, for now, I am playing on the other side of the coin for awhile. I still have every razor that I have bought over the last 20 or so years. And they all still work - really well - with the proper technique & prep. The latest carts just don't demand the same level of preparation and focus as the older more traditional systems require to get a great BBS. Facts is facts. I still choke on the prices of replacement cartridges, but if I were to factor time spent shaving into the mix, I think maybe the $ are justified. I don't know. So, for now I'm on a mission to figure out just how long a modern 5+ blade cartridge will last and still produce a smooth, comfortable BBS. Before I was paying attention, I would have guessed 2-4 weeks per cart. I was talking to my youngest son the other day about shaving, and he claims to get 2-3 months per cart. Wow! It's all good. So don't light the torches just yet! Stay tuned.

Good play Neal. I'm not sure if the QShave and Ming Shi are made at different facilities, or the same razor sold in different boxes. Either way we seem to be getting similar results. You are ahead of me sampling different blades shaving every day (I'm an every other day user) but I'll get to a Feather blade before the end of the month. Shave on Brother!

November 11 Plans Weber SS Voskhod (1) Simpson Chubby 2 Super MdC unscented Thayers Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Alt-Innsbruck aftershave It's early, but here are my plans for tomorrow's shave. I'm currently comparing five different brands of Russian DE blades over 75 days - 25 blades x 3 shaves each. I am rotating through five-packs of Voskhod, Polsilver SI, Perma-Sharp Super, Gillette Silver Blue, and Astra SP blades. I plan to use the same razor and brush and vary soap or cream and aftershave. Next up is shave # 16 with a new Voskhod blade. Have a great weekend, all!
