Wow. I think you might be right on some of the unusual ones being prototypes.

Some mind blowing stuff you have there. This one reminds me somewhat of the 1936 Camfield patent, it being made from one piece of sheet metal...

It might be interesting to look at the repeater patents and see if that sheds light on anything.

A DE injector that looks like an SE. I've seen it all now.

This is how baby injectors are made. It's nature's way.

Let's look at something a little more common yet special in its own way. This is an E2 with a modification that keeps the blade in the head when you open it up, much like the later hydro-magic. When you insert the key it pushes over a bar in the head that moves the retaining pin and allows the blade to be ejected. It also has a hole drilled in the handle which is threaded.
