  1. Classic software lineup. Even the brush color coordinates with the soap and aftershave :happy096:

  5. Nice looking set up, Rick. I haven't tried Proraso Green, but CO Bigelow is supposed to be similar. It was one of my favorites.

  6. Been there, done that.
  7. Hogan's Heroes is another one of my favorites also. It was a classic.

  8. Super Speeds are the underappreciated champions of the shaving world, IMHO. I've never had a chance to try a red tip yet, but if it's even better than the flare tip then it's magnificent. My '47 SS is also a quiet yet very effective shaving machine. It's no wonder Super Speed was so popular for so long.

  10. About two weeks in and we're both getting good results. Nice to see something be consistent in how it works!

  11. Another great show. Did you read anything about Bob Crane, who played Hogan? He led quite the second life.
  12. The red tip is worth a try sometime. They are a lot of fun.
  13. Thank you, Jim. I was PIFed the remains of a tube of COB - my introduction to menthol lather. Last time I squeezed the tube it burped and gave up enough for a shave. That's when I decided to try Proraso Green. I haven't tried them side by side but can imagine it's just croap vs cream.

You are correct, Sir! Or should I say Czar? Either way, Neal - though they are packaged in different boxes I'm guessing they come from the same production line. With Merkur supplying the genetic information these Clones are decent tools. I'm not sure I'd recommend them to newbs, but for folks that lean aggressive it's an inexpensive entry level razor. For seasoned shavers that want a Futur experience, they cost less than a steak dinner.

November 12 - Qshave Focus Blade Trial

    Blade Trial Meme.jpg

    Razor - 1959 Gillette Fatboy
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Post - Alum

Day two on the trial of the Qshave blade. You get a tuck of these blades when you buy the Qshave razor and while they are much better than I feared I'm still not sure about the total quality. Hence, the blade trial to find out. Last night's shave was a bit disappointing. Blade was a bit rough and not a fantastic result on the mild 3 setting on the Fatboy. Tonight we're at 6 and hoping for better.

I also have the final answer on the blade's origin. It is, in fact, a USA Personna blade. The comment by the mysterious Iris about it being imported? The razor is made in China, packaged in China and shipped from China to retailers around the world. So....the American made blades are imported by China (exported by us), then repackaged into the Qshave tuck with the razor and off they go. So, we have a Chinese made razor NOT using Chinese blades. That has to be an improvement. The Qshave blades are Titanium, while standard Lab Blues/Med Preps are stainless coated. So it is a special order job by Qshave.

With the Fatboy on 6 the feel was still a bit rough. Nothing outrageous, but you can feel the blade more than I would expect. I have a feeling that they don't sharpen these blades to the level of a branded Personna, though they are far superior to almost every Chinese blade I've tried. I did a full three pass shave using the third pass for ATG and touch up slides and I will give it the baby. So, a nice shave and a better one than last night. Alum did warm up just a bit so the roughness isn't my imagination. But it is still a very nice shave with a blade that isn't horrible.

Tomorrow night I'll crank the Fatboy up to 9 which is still mild compared to the Qshave razor itself and see how it handles. It will also be interesting to see what a third shave does on the blade. I abandoned the first one after two shaves with the Qshave razor. Just didn't see it going for three. We will see.

  15. Yes!!!!!!!! Actual ground Japanese horseradish (Wasabi) has little to do with green paste, and is, in fact, sweeter and less throaty than regular horseradish. If your sushi chef isn't grinding a root on a ceramic grater, it isn't Wasabi. It's just regular root died green and mixed with cold water.
  16. Not your fault Paul.

  17. I was suffering from green brush handle envy until Randy @BaylorGator hooked me up as a prize in The Shavey Awards. It's my first Semogue as I've mostly been an Omega kind of guy. Good knot, plenty dense, and being already broken in - quite soft. From my experience using it I might try a new one, though I'll admit it do like breaking in a scritchy new boar knot.
If I recall I scored the soap in a trade with Neal @NCoxSTL. Not only do we both have Futur Clones (purchased from different dealers under different labels) but his Fat Boy is the same year & quarter as mine. Before I sent it to him I did a side by side shave and mixed them up. They shave and look identical.

The green AS lotion I blame on Jared @PickledNorthern. He a fine Enabler and it's a great AS.
  18. It's starting to look like we might be brothers from another mother.
  19. I would say your guess about their origin is correct. Doesn't seem to be any difference at all, other than the name and the blades they ship out with the razor. I'm glad I decided to go the clone route to obtain one given the difference in price between them and the actual Futur. Considering that the Futur is also zinc like the clones - and zinc razors are not prone to last a lifetime - it's nice to get the Futur quality of shave at a cost that would allow for easy replacement when needed as well!
