Let me just start with a huge THANK YOU to
@LOOT for allowing one of his toggles to visit the banks of the Missouri River. The chance to try out one of these razors makes my day, and will make several days of shaving. I can think of few things more decadent than getting to shave with a Toggle. Yes, I know, it's really just a Gillette Adjustable (although their first attempt) and it was surpassed in popularity by the Fatboy (explaining why they stopped making it in 1960) but the unique design and history of the razor just makes it fun.
My plan for the Toggle is to use it for a couple of weeks while researching every last detail about it for a reboot on my blog. I figure restarting that project with a legendary razor will give it the momentum it needs to keep me involved and hopefully attract some readers. I'm looking for sometime after Christmas but before New Year's Day for that, so I have plenty of time to really get to know this razor.
By the way, there were three models of the Toggle and this is the "Chrome Toggle" as it is often referred to. The one that
@LOOT shaved with this morning is the "Standard" Toggle. It features a different blade tray and is a bit longer than the Chrome. The first model was the "Serial Toggle" and it has more in common with the Chrome than the Standard.
I chose MWF and the Wolf to kick off these shaves. Might as well go decadent all the way. I decided to just start with the razor dialed down to "1" and work my way up through 9 as I go. Needless to say, a Gillette Adjustable on its lowest setting is as mild as a razor gets. I think the Weishi is more aggressive. So, three passes and some touch up and I have a barely DFS that was very fun to achieve. Yeah, the results at that low of a setting leave something to be desired but the experience did not. The razor has good heft and balance with the toggle itself creating the need to hold it closer to the head. I know as I open the gap up it will produce a shave on par with the Fatboy or Slim. They are, after all, closely related.
Great shave and a very fun one as well.
