12.13.2017 Pre-shave: shower Brush: VDH Boar (not pictured) Soap + Shave Butter: Williams Mug + VDH Shave Butter Razor: Ming Shi dialed in to #5 Blade: Wilkinson-Sword (4) Post-shave: TN Dickinson WH, Neutrogena Sensitive Skin PS Balm, Aqua Velva Musk AS-Cologne Today I went with the Williams puck, and since I like to experiment with the Williams and other hard soaps, I pulled out the VDH Shave Butter to see what would happen. Previously, I've had terrific lather when I mix Williams with Head Slick Shave Cream or Cremo shave creams so I wanted to try something new. On occasion, I've used the VDH Shave Butter by itself. It doesn't lather, with or without a brush. You simply apply it by hand, and while I've had decent shaves with it, and I like its scent, I am partial to a whipped up lather. So, having success with an uber-lather (i.e. decadent) with the other creams and Williams I thought I'd try this. Well, the lather I built up looked all right, but it seemed a little airy, and once I applied it to my face it was thin and wasn't very slick. My first thought was I may have used too much water initially. I did "souse" the Williams beforehand, and I may not have shaken enough water out of the boar brush, or added too much to the bowl. I don't know for sure. It may also be they just do not combine well. I do want to try this combination again soon and see if I can get a better lather. Nevertheless, the Futur Clone performed gallantly in spite of the thin, less than slick lather. The razor, dialed in at #5, brought the baby home today! I hope everyone is having a great day!
I don't do well with almond scents, but it was the first time it happened with rose. I will give it a couple days and see how it goes as today wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday. I have Electric Sheep and Gentleman as well and neither of them bothered me in the least. Thanks. I hope it continues. I really and enjoy Rose scents and Rod's soaps seem to be top notch.
Do you have the splash, too? The soap I could have tolerated. No way I was putting the AS on my face again. I could tolerate Bay Rum, but not the AS. Now, if it bothers me in the slightest, it's out. I have too many fantastic scents to choose from. I justify my selectiveness by keeping the products in use....in another den. At least I didn't throw it away.
Razor: Blackland Bluebird (Blackbird) Delta Echo Finish Blade: Pol Silver (6) Brush: Los Tres Amigos Dos Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic LE Jade. Soap: Oleo El Caballero A/S: Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic Bowl: Pottersong KO Shave Very close comfortable 3 passes with a cleanup shave. Everything worked well together for a near BBS.
No. I only have the soap, I have been using the lightly mentholated Soap Commander Love ASB with it. It goes nicely with it. I completely agree with you, but I really enjoy rose scents so I am giving it a little extra leeway. If I get another one like yesterday, I am done with this scent and will PIF the puck.
Sans shave again today but I lived vicariously through your collective shaves today. Some very nice gear today, gentleman. The BlueBird makes me want to shave...bad! I regretted not getting the OC baseplate so I called Shane yesterday and arrange to get one. I also bought bis last 101mm polished handle. I am STOKED! I think the additional length of the handle will allow me to choke up on the Bird and rest the base of the handle in my palm....like I like it! Now with that purchase, I'm going to learn to be content and enjoy my gear. I spent 2 years collecting, now I can spend the quality time with each piece needed to understand their nuances. Aw hell, who am I kidding?...I'll buy the 1st Merkur Vision I find in mint shape for a decent price.
