Thank you Sirs! One more Proraso soap - the Red. I don't have a sandalwood AS. Suggestions? Now that you are a couple shaves in on the Ming Shi what's your thoughts?
I am feeling much better today. I was able to get by yesterday, so the kids still had fun, but today is significantly better.
I’ve had two Slims, and I hated them. Under 7 and I couldn’t get the angle I wanted, over seven and the blade chattered. Granted, I got rid of both a few years ago, and could probably get a great shave with them now. Since moving to straights, my technique with DE is even better. The only adjustable I have any plans on getting is an x1 Super if I run across one, but I wouldn’t say no to a cheap Fatboy.
I have used thier original base (four tubs,) a few uses on a tub of Latha, I have a tub of Gissant in the 42 scent, and have used a few samples of the Reserve base. All of them are good. Gillsant and Reserve are touchy about the mount of water, and if you don’t give them enough, they aren’t great, but when you do they perform. Latha is slick, but not as protective as Glissant. The scent of the original was not my thing. B&M soaps are all good performers, but the scents have been described as polarizing. I like about half of them.
I had a Slim, kinda early on, and didn’t care for it all that much. I have a Black Beauty now, and I find it to be “meh”. Good, close shaves, but always feels chattery and scrapey on higher settings. Same as the Slim, basically. Coupling that with the my experience with other TTO’s, both vintage and modern, I just figured that I didn’t much care for TTO shaves in general. It is kinda why I have never bought a Fatboy or especially a Toggle. Just not interested in paying the premium.
I have a birth year Slim that I don’t really like. I find the Slim even on 9 to be less efficient that a New LC. While I can get a decent shave with it like the Super Speed, I don’t like using either. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t get on with TTO razors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I tried a Slim a while back on pass-around for a week or so. Didn't work well for me and actually the worse irritation I can remember having since I started DE/wet shaving came from one of those Slim shaves. Never tried another DE adjustable and then we all know I went full bore with injectors and SEs.....
SOTD December 26, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: GEM stainless Razor: GEM G-bar Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic Lather: Stirling Scots Pine Sheep Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Ozark Mountain aftershave WTG, touch up Nice and easy shave. I'm trying to use up this Scots Pine sample. Stirling samples are such a great value due to the number of shaves you get. This is a top-notch soap and I'm so intrigued by the sheep base. Need to explore some of those soaps more. Anyway, we're hopefully on the mend at our house. The little boy was sick a few more times last night but has been okay so far today. He's napping right now and hopefully we come through unscathed the rest of today. We are traveling south to the Emerald Coast of Florida tomorrow to meet with my brother and sister and their families as well as my parents. Seven total kids, ages 10 and down, and six adults. At least we're spread out over two condos. Lots of togetherness! Hopefully we make it out of that unscathed as well! Have a great rest of the day!
Wednesday Decadent Shave For DE decadence nothing tops my 2011 R41 for me. I put my huge brass on it to add to the decadence. AoS used to be maligned on the internet but I find their creams to be excellent, today it performed excellently. With a new Iridium Super blade I knew I would get an excellent shave. Just a tickle from the alum left me just short of epic. Irritation A Closeness A+ Razor: 2011 Mühle R41 Brush: Simpson Polo 8 Pre: Proraso Soap: AoS cream AS: Fine AS, Speick ASB Scent: Chanel Egoïst
