  1. Apparently my re-education at the gulag went well enough that Yuri and Boris passed on the good word to @mrchick. Thanks, Brian! I guess the cookies really do exist. Unfortunately a now a perfectly good cookie rebellion has been snuffed out. I think I will contemplate the bittersweet irony while noshing on some semi sweet morsels.
In other unrelated news, I went to the clinic today for an ear infection where a perky young physician’s assistant, after looking in my ears asks me “Are your canals normally small?” I couldn’t figure out if she was insulting me or coming on to me. More to ponder over a cookie.

  2. 12.27.2017
    Pre-shave: Hot shower
    Brush: RazoRock Plissoft synthetic
    Cream: Reuzel Shave Cream
Razor: Gillette Fat Boy E-4 (set at #5)
    Blade: Wilkinson-Sword (1)
Post-shave: Thayer's Lavender WH, Nivea Sensitive Skin PS Balm, Proraso Sandalwood AS

Today was my first shave since Saturday so I had a few days of whiskers to chop off. On Saturday I had used the Gillette Slim for something different so I went back to the Fat Boy which I'm planning to use for the remainder of the year 2017. It was cold out by my house this morning when I got up... minus 8F. It managed to warm up to minus 1F by 10 a.m., so I took the dogs out to mom's house to let them run around there. The temp at her place was about 14F above zero. Although she's only 13 miles away, her place is about 600 more feet in elevation so sometimes that makes a big difference in temperature. I took some of the shave gear I was going to use out there to get an outdoor shot, and ran into some "technical" interference. Blanca decided I needed help setting up the shave gear and provided her assistance.

Of course, she had to study the set-up for a couple of minutes while my knees are freezing in the snow.

"Now, just wait, Dad! I gotta check this out some more"

My other dog, Shayla, had to give her two cents and make final approval since she is senior dog in the family.

Finally, they gave me their final approval and I took the shot while they ran off to hunt for any man-eating rabbits which may be lurking in the area.

Overall, it was terrific shave this afternoon and very close to BBS. Have a great week everyone!

P.S. Shayla and Blanca say hi. They're offering their services for shave gear set-up to everyone in the 30DC crew for free.
  3. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts between the Slim vs. Toggle/Fatboy. I can definitely tell a difference here. Wondering if your thoughts mirror mine.

  4. That is interesting about Stirling and a scuttle. I've never used nor owned one so zero point of reference. I have recently toyed with the idea of buying one tho...you saved me some $$$. Thanks for that....but now my curiosity is sufficiently piqued. Is that a well know anomaly?

  8. Another no shave day for me today, but after reading throufg solenoid the post on the Simpsons CH2, I found a decent deal on one today and ordered it. I hope this doesn't mean BAD is kicking in.
  9. Ah heck, I've got Norwegian blood flowing through my veins.

Thank you, Jim! I had a couple of lovely models helping me out, though. ;)

  11. Hope they treat you better then me. Never ever ever EVER had anything good at that place.

    Hope that is all better.

Must just be that one. I have never had issues with any soap or cream in my scuttle. I do not use it enough actually.

  12. Wednesday December 27 - sampling

    Gillette Slim on 4 / Voskhod ( 5)
30DC LE Maple Cashmere synthetic brush
    B+M Latha Lavanda sample
Alum and TSD Milk Aftershave Lavender

It looks like we're about to crack 4,000 posts this month!

And now back to the regularly scheduled shave post...

Today's sample was Latha Lavanda, which you will no doubt be shocked to hear smells very much like lavender... I scooped out about a fifth of the generously packed sample tub, probably about 6 grams of soap, and smeared it in my lather bowl. The synthetic brush whipped it into enough lather for me and a couple friends. It's a good soap and smells nice, but I have several good lavender soaps already, so I doubt I will buy a tub.

Three easy passes with the Slim left me in sight of a BBS but I chose not to chase it down. As it was, the shave is more than good enough for my needs and the alum was silent. I used the TSD aftershave mainly to extend the lavender scent.

The Voskhod was still smooth today on its fifth shave but didn’t seem as sharp. How long do people find they generally last?

  15. 5-7 days, but technique and tool affects blade life. I never use dial four, so my answer may not be absolutely relevant.
