  1. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

    12.31.2017
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: VDH Badger
    Soap: VDH Luxury
    Razor: VDH TTO
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Aqua Velva Sensitive 5 in 1 PS Balm, Aqua Velva Ice Blue Cooling AS

At first today I wasn't planning to shave. I was going to watch my Minnesota Vikings team play and forgo shaving since I usually don't on Sundays. But during commercial breaks I read through a lot of posts, and just as you all enable me to buy stuff you convinced me I should shave on this final day of 2017.

I retired the Fatboy for the time-being, and I went with the very products that got me into this wet-shaving hobby... the VDH brush, soap and razor. I have VDH blades somewhere but I wasn't going to hunt them down. Overall, it was a very nice shave. My cheeks are baby smooth... but again my neck whiskers refused to cooperate completely.

This was the first month I've participated in the 30 day rule, and I intend to continue with it. It's been a lot of fun with all of you. Great bunch of guys, all. I hope you enjoy fun and safe New Year's festivities whatever they may be, and that everyone have a happy and healthy 2018!

  7. Still trying to catch up on the thread. Today is my bride’s birthday, so have had a nice quiet day with the family. A few days ago, I tried shaving with the factory edge on my new Gold Dollar Razor, and had to pull the toggle as a rescue razor.

Today I spent some time on the stones and re-did the edge. My honing is still hit and miss, and this edge isn’t quite there yet. Got a low grade DFS. I always forget how awesome this soap is. Funny thing, three years ago, I would have called this a BBS. Happy New Year’s, everyone!

  12. I read this earlier, Clint. This is an impressive recap! Clearly, you have a strong focus for numbers. I can understand why your girls may tease you about it. Definitely, this is perfect for a thread based on being focused! ;)

  13. Gentlemen, a host of inspired sentiments and shaves to close out 2017. I also feel like I have found brothers here and I look forward to next year! I've already loaded my shavette for January. I'm a little nervous about using it, but eager to start! :happy093:

  14. That is beautiful, Jared. I have family in Minnesota not too far from Detroit Lakes(and I was born there as well) and they all have their homes on various lakes.

Don't forget all of the ice fishing you can do during the winter!
  15. Some great end of year combos, Gentlemen!

  16. I've done enough ice fishing for my life. My dad used to get me out of bed at three in the morning to make the trek to the lake a few hours from our house. Then, it was drag all the equipment across the ice and drill holes through 5' of ice by hand. We would sit without a shelter on the wind blown lake freezing our you know what's off. Sure we caught lots of fish, but I am still sensitive to the cold in certain area.

  20. Happy New Year, everyone!

I joined both TSD and the 30DC in late October 2016, so 2017 was my first full year here. I have learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Also bought a lot of soaps, brushes and aftershaves that I would never even have heard of if not for all the Enablers on the Crew... I'm not quite sure if that deserves thanks or hisses and boos....

The friendship and the sharing definitely deserves thanks though.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all across the fence in next year on next month's thread. I have even bought a Parker SRX shavette in preparation for Shavette January. (I also bought myself a straight razor though I still don't know if I will use it. It was a beautiful piece of cutler's art and was 50% off on a one-day flash sale, so I bit...)
