I may not do much of a focus this month as my life is crazy right now. I will be traveling a lot for work while doing an interstate move. All of my spare time is being consumed with the move. I am even having trouble just keeping up with this thread. Since I’m packing the rest of the Den this week, I think my focus will be on Shave Sticks for the rest of the month. Have fun guys!
The way I rotate through soaps I'll never finish one. I have one tin of CRSW that is showing metal at the bottom. With some focus and a huge brush I might can get a couple done. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Last year I finished off 7 tubs of soaps that were carried over from 2016 and started and finished 1 tub. That does not include finishing samples etc.
Wednesday January 3 morning - Jeeves Gillette Aristocrat / Gillette Platinum Plus ( 7) Simpsons CH2 Synthetic brush Jeeves Private Study Alum and Jeeves Bay Rum splash I loaded the Jeeves from the tub supergoop style, then face lathered with the Soap Destroyer. Two passes brought me to a DFS without any irritation. The splash continued the great scent and added to the soap's already good face feeling. I tossed the vintage Gillette blade today after its seventh outing. I thought it was feeling just a bit less smooth and sharp. To be honest, I expect I could stretch it to 10 to 14 shaves fairly easily. However, even if I toss every blade - including injectors and Gem SEs - after five shaves, it will still take me nearly 30 years to work through my stash, so why bother trying to eke them out past the point where they are shaving well? I am going to stick with the Jeeves soaps all month. However, for razors, I am going to start using some of the ones in my rotation rack that haven't been getting much attention since my Gillette adjustables came back from Delta Echo -- my Triangle Tech, Schick Krona, Fatip Grande, two Gillette Old Types, and my injectors and Gem-style SEs. The shavettes? Maybe...
I definitely want to finish some soaps or PIF or sell some away. I have 32 soaps and creams that are open and have been used. That's full tubs, samples, shave sticks, etc. That doesn't include about 6 or 8 others that I haven't tried yet. Yeesh. A soap no-buy or no-acquire would be great for me as well.
This is my problem too, I've adopted the Titanic technique where I use the soap that I'm trying to use up every other shave until its done.
I'm a piker compared to some of the guys here when it comes to brushes and razors, but soaps .... they're the reason I reluctantly decided to be serious about NB'18: 36 tubes or tubs of creams and 40 fullsize tubs of soaps -- plus a pound of my Italian frankensoap, a kilogram barber's block of Cella and 10 sticks of Arko... Plus a dozen samples...
Time to put the Destroyer and Carrier to work! I've found that in using my Destroyer and Cruiser class brushes I can use up an ounce of soap in ~ 10 shaves
I don't even want to count my soaps. It's more than any sane person should have. (I only need to try 1 or 2 more, then I'm done...) I had no idea so many guys had toggles around here. Crazy.
That big Stirling Kong I got in the raffle is putting a hurt on that Stirling Scots Pine sample. The Omega 49 and the Kong are my biggest brushes.
this is why I bought some 4" containers too. 3.5" is the absolute minimum to load a 30mm brush comfortably.
Razor: Gillette Aristocrat 1947 (Birth Year) Blade: Personna Platinum (6) Brush: Tres Amigos Desert Ironwood Beehive w/Envy White Soap: Jeeves Of Husdon Street Turkish Bath A/S: Lucky Tiger Bowl: Junichi Tanaka Artisanal Scuttle Birthday Shave.
Sounds like a great plan for the month. Wow. Given some of the company around here, I am feeling better about my situation.
