So the Blue Tip has been my favorite SS for quite some time. However, I think the 40s SS may have taken not only its place but might be my favorite de razor. It certainly gives the Slim a run for its money in my book, with a more simple design. (Honorable mention to the Fatboy. I know it is more expensive and less common, but I simply think the slim is a better razor.) I need to re home my silver flair tips- they are too aggressive for me, believe it or not. I simply have too many other razors and I enjoy-and all they will do is sit and collect dust. Have a great Friday evening everyone! And a safe new year's weekend !!!
I wouldn't do anything with what you have. Times and attitudes change. I have many a razor that I thought I could never get along with... Later on down the road they became favorites.....
No shame in re-homing unused or unloved equipment. This seperates the hoarders from the users (imho). I have sold, traded, or gave all my safety razors away. I kept two de’s and two injectors. I have a little over a dozen Straights in my regular rotation.
I too, am a big fan of the 40s Super Speed. I ended up with 4 of them. Three of them are great shavers. One of them was an antique store basket case that had probably been dropped hard. Even though I adjusted that "T-bar thing" to where it should be, it still won't shave as well as the other three. But still, considering they are around seventy years old, 3 out of 4 is pretty good. And, I'm hanging on to my flairs, tech, and slim. So don't ask.
I have and have used all the razors on here and like them all. But when I have to do some touch up later in the day for going out, the Blue Tip is my choice for the job.
My current inventory, off the top of my head, so it isn't accurate... 4- 40s SS 3- Blue Tips 2-Silver tips 3-Fatboys (One is an Executive) 3 or 4- Slims 3-Black Beauties 6 or so- Techs 4- Various Schick Injectors 3- Gems 1-Schick Krona I won't miss the Silver Tips
If there’s a razor that you know you don’t like, then go ahead and put them up for adoption. I’ve done that several times and have also gotten rid of my duplicates. No need to have 5 of the same razor. As was already said, time changes attitudes towards razors, with technique always evolving. A razor that doesn’t work for you today could be your favorite 6 months from now. I bought a red tip about two years ago and didn’t like it at all and only used it twice. It sat collecting dust under the sink. After taking inventory of my den a few months ago, I took it out the red tip and used it. I love it now! What changed in two years? Hmmm.... Technique probably. Either way, I’m glad I didn’t sell it.
I love my 40s SSs and my Black Beauty. My Slim I kinda grew away from? Sold my Silver Flare Tips, Red Tip, Blue Tip, and most others. I think there is a lot of truth in not getting rid of stuff because it could be your favorite in 6 mos to a year. I regret getting rid of very few, one of which though is the Red Tip. I don't know if that strengthens or weakens my argument.
I will be thinning the herd this year, getting rid of duplicates. I do like having one of each though.
