  1. Well interesting results today. After being a bit more attuned to some of the subtleties in my grain pattern, I went WTG and ATG in a two pass DFS+. This is progress (I'm usually a 3 pass shaver), but interestingly, didn't give me quite as good results as when I accidentally went ATG and XTG. This is gonna take some experimentation to dial in the right combination.

Also, I know this is laughable for my Northern brethren, but today I woke up to South Florida temperature 0f 39F with wind chill in the 20's. We don't have clothes for that, so I had to break out some of my fleece shirts I use for skiing. My girls were sporting snow caps, leggings and flip flops this morning. I tried to explain that flip flops weren't the best choice, but got "I don't have anything else, Dad!" I'm not sure if that was true or not, but trying to change the fashion choices of 7 and 9 year old girls is a fruitless exercise, so we went with it. Maybe they'll learn the hard way, maybe they won't.

  3. It does lather very well with a brush

  4. I have an early model E2 that feels like a monster. Very aggressive. I find I have to remind myself constantly to not use pressure. It is a super shaver though. A favorite of mine.
  5. I'm thinking of trying a Hydro Magic, just need to find one that's not a crazy price.

  6. Great photo Mark. I have always been intrigued by the MdC "Brain Bowl"

Hang with it, you'll have the E2 mastered shortly.

With certain SE razors I can go ATG for the first pass and the results are fantastic. Not something I would try with most razors on a regular basis. However, it might be doable with a SR.

  7. Thank you Andrew. I have been battling ongoing chronic colon and stomach issues since December 2002. In reality the issues never completely go away but diminish to the point that I am able to just mentally block them from impacting my daily routine. Then there are days that residual pain is just to high and does impact my routine. I have been in a loop that has me very close to the threshold for the last couple of months.

Amici is one of the soaps that I am going to try to use up this year, so this morning it got acquainted with The Soap Destroyer. I absolutely love the scent of this soap, unfortunately it is pretty average across the board performance wise with a little drying post shave. A heavy super goop style load and The Soap Destroyer turned in into a creamy lather that had plenty of slickness to get the job done. After 3 passes I was in DFS+ territory and finished off with some Baxter of California ASB to combat the dry feeling that Amici tends to leave. Have a great day my friends!

A nice wee hours of the morning shave earlier. The usual top-notch Jeeves lather, though to be honest, I’ve commented before that this particular soap is very lightly scented. Finished with the Barbershop to rectify that. To be honest, forgot to bump up the razor. Will do so next time.
Off to hit the slopes with my kids. Have a great day all!
  10. Nice picture! Enjoy the time with your kids!
  11. Great looking razor, Andrew! Is there any difference between the two types of handle in terms of weight, or is the only difference cosmetic?
  12. So come to find out my newest Kampfe wedge razor actually dates from 1887-1890. A 130ish y/o. Still gives a great shave. Now I have to learn to hone the wedge blades. Chargeeeeee

  13. I am surecI have one. I think it rattles though. I will see if I can hunt it up and if it is in good shape your welcome to use it to see what you think.

    AllMan Refined AS Balm

There's metal showing in the bottom of this soap. It's bringing up mixed feelings. It'll be the first to go this year in my effort to finish up some soaps. But it's also one of my favorite scents, and it is no longer in production. I'll be having a moment of silence when it's gone.

The shave itself went without incident. The AllMan balm is something I discovered at our local Lidl store. I've found it to be good stuff at a very fair price.

  15. I've seen this but never picked it up to try it. I'm on a soap no-buy, but glad to hear it's an option in the future.
  16. If you have a Kampfe or Star that has never been used, you need to get on it. I love my Kampfe Star. If you decide you don't like yours, you know who to call! ;)
  17. Thank you, Perry. The temperature has finally broken, although -5C in the valley will probably still mean -11C or so on top. The kids don’t seem to enjoy it at -20.
  18. Thanks very much Keith.

  19. Bummer about the blades. Sounds like you’ve got more, though.
Yes, the BK12 should definitely help with soap reduction, John!
Always nice to get a good product cheaply and locally!
Wow. Stunning photo, Clint! I Hope your stomach issues cycle back down for awhile.
Nice combo, Mark! Proraso seems to have a whole bunch of new products.
  20. Wow. The MonoBilt looks mint. The Soap Destroyer will certainly finish off the soap faster than most other brushes.

Love the B&W photo. Have fun with the kids today.

Great shave lineup. Sounds like you will soon be on the scoreboard with 1 soap finished.
