Excellent progress with the shavette, keep at it and soon you will be using both hands on your throat too. I’m not a country music fan but there a couple I truly enjoy, Waylon Jennings is one of them.... so .... I’ll be listing it to some Waylon today.
January 2018 Shavettes and Jeeves January! January 6 Razor - Feather SS Artist Club Blades - (1) Pre-Shave - Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum Brush - 30DC LE Post - Alum I know, it's about time. Finally a shavette shave today to go along with Jeeves January. I picked up the Feather SS, loaded a Pro blade, lathered the Jeeves up with the 30DC LE and went at it. It's been awhile since I used the pain stick but it was right on target. I still really enjoy using this razor and had a two pass shave, DFS result, and the alum was only mildly warm. I was a little heavy handed but that will fade away as I use it more this month. No blood, which is the desired result along with a very fine shave. Hope you're all having a great weekend. Waiting to see what the weather does here tonight and tomorrow. We're finally getting above freezing for the first time in about 10 days, but we have rain coming. Time it wrong and we'll have a good ol' Saint Louis ice storm!
You probably already know this, but Waylon Jennings was a bass player for Buddy Holly, and was supposed to be on the plane that killed him. At the last minute Jennings gave up his seat to J.P. (Big Bopper) Richardson, who was suffering from the flu and didn't want to get on the cold tour bus that kept freezing up. As they were separating, Buddy jokingly told Jennings, "I hope your old bus freezes up again" to which Jennings replied "I hope your old plane crashes." It bothered him for the rest of his life.
Off Focus For the moment Route 66 Barbershop Hop Omega Pro 98 boar brush Suribachi bowl & warm water '59 Fat Boy & Feather blade Pinaud Clubman AS & USB Lathered up with a known product - Route 66 is great during cold windy weather. Could be the lanolin? Very nice post shave feeling. Big old boar brush loads easily in the huge tubs, too. I picked up the shavette fully intending to get in both a WTG & ATG pass. Just wasn't feeling it tonight. Switched out for the 195 on setting Neal. It's a Zen thing. If I wasn't worried about my mustache I could shave blind folded with the Fat Boy/Feather/ Number nine setting. No errors, skipped the alum, splashed on the epic Barbershop scent, and grabbed the unrefined shea butter tub. Warmed a generous portion between my hands and gave my skin an additional moisturizing boost. I'm a fan of humidity and this recent cold weather has been uncharacteristically dry. Now as I write up my report an hour or more later my face feels great. A DFS or better and no dry skin. Good Shaves Y'all!
January 6 I'm moving slow and fighting off a cold from the long trip home, but I was ready for my first DE shave in about two weeks. I loaded my Weber with a fresh Voskhod blade. I whipped up some C.O. Bigelow lather with the Soap Destroyer and managed to over hydrate it, drop the brush, and splatter lather on the bathroom wall. After examining the brush handle and finding no damage, I made another run at the lather, got it right, and completed my shave. I'm not sure if it's my imagination, but my skin feels a bit more sensitive to a DE blade if I've been using carts for awhile. At any rate, I enjoyed the best two-pass shave I've had in the last couple of weeks. I finished with some unrefined shea butter and called it good. I have a Parker SRX shavette waiting for me at the Post Office. I may need to become unfocused for a few days later this month. I plan to take it out on its maiden voyage with a Voskhod.
Off focus. It is Sunday and I wanted to use a big smiling day and see how Williams performed with a straight. This big smiling M Martinez has a number of shaves on Gokumyo 20k edge, I just gave it a few laps on the CrOx before stropping. The edge is fantastic and had a wonderful shave. Williams passed the straight razor test too. If you don't have the storyteller's album with Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, do yourself a favor and get it. It is some of the best either recorded.
Caught up on the thread! I have had two shaves since my last update. Both the with Toggle and a 7'o Clock Black. I am in the midst of purging some of my razors, to fund some car repairs, so this one is heading to a new home in a few weeks. I am going to use it a bunch before then. Had the Jeeves Cranberry Pomegranate on Friday, and the Van Yulay KC 2016 yesterday. This blade is a little less comfortable for me than my favorite, but I got DFS plus on both days. Used my synthetic soap destroyer brush in an aluminum handle on Friday, and my (what class is a 24mm?) Envy White Badger yesterday. Jeeves lathers like a champ always. The Van Yulay takes a little more work, (I pretended it tried to steal my lunch money while I loaded,) but I got the water level right and got a great lather. I do like that the scent sticks around for a while with the VY.
Great photos and lineups Adam. You should have no trouble finding a new home for the Toggle when the time comes.
An excellent summary of a memorable shave, Rick. Welcome home, Charlie. Lotsa viruses making the rounds. Hope you feel better quickly. Enjoy those shaves! Excellent, Keith! Mark, you have some terrific gear listed. Thx!
January 7, 2018 Cobra Classic Feather Pro (7) 30 DC LE with Omega 20107 knot Nuàvia Rossa I will be using the Nuàvia Rossa each Sunday until the tub is finished. However, this is not a chore by any means since I enjoy the Rossa scent and performance. The big boar easily loaded and whipped the Rossa into a wonderful slick lather. I just adore this scent and love the way it fills the room. Even my wife commented on how much she likes the scent. I took my time with a relaxing traditional 3 pass shave and caught the baby with minimal touch ups. This was the best shave of the week. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Nice pic, Neal, but the ice storm sounds like no fun. Super photo, Rick. Cold is relative, I suppose! Great combo, Keith. You have so many scents that I’ve never heard of! That Sumo is one cool looking brush, Mark. Great write up, Adam. Yes, the toggle will be easy to unload! Sounds like an awesome shave, Clint! Nice to see some greenery as well...
