Few of things that helped me when I was starting.
    1) Use the blade to wipe the lather off your face. Don’t worry about the whiskers, they will follow. If you visualize just scraping the lather off, you will use less pressure.
    2) Once you wipe the lather off, don’t go back over that spot until you relather.
    3) Splash cold water on your face between passes, and before the Alum.
    4) Turn off the fan and the water. Listen to the sound of the razor cutting. Once you figure out what it is supposed to sound like, this will help you find the right angle.

Hope you make a quick recovery Paul..

    Safe travels.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

I too had several ‘over comfidence’ epsiodes with straights (includes shavettes). Some of us only learn through blood.

I have problems, no doubt. That one doesn't make the top 10, however.:happy036:
    Sarcasm might make the list...

Steve, again welcome to TSD. I'm glad you joined us here at the 30 DC. I have learned a lot here, but more importantly I continue to learn a lot about technique, products and so on.

Neal, thank you for sharing a little of your Dad's legacy! You have wonderful memories of him.

I look forward to your upcoming shavette picture, Fuzzy!

Clint, another sharp photo. Cool looking brush, but I like that razor a lot.

Good advice for us all, John! Thanks for posting them!

Jason, that is a nice looking brush. Good set-up!

I have not used an E2, and I believe it was Perry @PLAla who reported his shaves with an E2 was very aggressive... I'm wondering if you know what the difference between an E2 and an E3. I have an E3 and I find it very smooth. I enjoy my shaves with it. Thanks, Andrew!

Have a safe business trip, Brian!

    Terrific photo, Doug! Looks cold!

Good point on the blade gap discussion, Adam. Sounds like a great shave today!

John, I used my USA made Gillette Tech on a head shave 2 days ago. Love it! But yours is particularly special because it belonged to your Dad. That is cool! Thanks!

More sound advice for all of us. Thanks, Adam!

Thanks for those tips. Did not think about cold water between the passes.

Hmmm, strange... I suddenly feel the need to be submissive to the regime.

    Finishing stone focus round 3

This round featured Hart Steel, the big 7/8 was finished on the Gokuymo 20k and the 6/8 on the Shapton glass 16k. The Shapton edge was very smooth and very sharp while the G20 edge was just smooth and very very sharp. This was the biggest difference between the stones yet, the Shapton was a lot smoother and the G20 a lot sharper. I would have declared it a tie but based on the shave results the winner of round 3 is the Shapton glass, it is now 2 vs 1.

    Thanks, John!
Yes, that is called a "mitten bowl." It's meant to hang by the door and holds mittens, or keys or whatever. Thanks for asking.

Like I said the shave was memorable... I'll learn from it. Thanks!

Or go cold water all the way. Make larger with cold, rinse with cold, etc. It’s a great way to shave!

I will certainly try it out. I've seen a couple of threads about this, I think there's a group also.

Edit: oh... just saw the group name in your signature....

I find cold water shaving invigorating but also aiding in reduced irritation.
