January 15th CJB Shavette w Feather Pro (2) GEM Jr TGN Finest Fan Jeeves Apothacary SS Thayers Barrister’s Reserve Cool AS After my aborted first pass with the CJB on Saturday, I gave it another go. I need some serious work with my off hand. I shave with my right hand exclusively with a DE, and really need to practice with my left hand with this pain stick. I’m just not very confident after gouging myself a few days ago. Got my one side, cheek and neck done, but finished off the other side on each pass with the GEM Jr. I think I’ll do what has been recommended a few times on here and practice without a blade with my left hand. GEM guys- how many days can I expect from the blade? I think this is 5 or 6 now. Have a great day all!
Nice ‘Menthol Morning’. Sounds like you are doing well with that Shavette, Jim! Glad to hear you finally slept, Clint! Another great ‘Menthol Monday’ pic!
Terrific photo, Clint! I hope the solid sleep starts your week off on the right foot. Great photo, Mark! I think you could easily go beyond 5 or 6 shaves on a blade. I'm trying to determine the same thing, actually, with both injector and SE blades. I normally don't go beyond 6 shaves for those blades but probably could.
I wish OMAHA STEAKS could develop veggie burgers. I KNOW,....wishin...and hopin....planning...and schemin..
Excellent picture, Mark! Great set up, Jason! Once you get your off hand a little practice, it comes relatively easily. Slow and steady, but still firm with the grip.
I have gone 14 shaves with both Gem PTFE SE blades and common injector blades and quite possibly could have pushed them further. However I generally dump them at 7 now. That's a week of shaving and if I am using the same razor all week, I just change blades on Sunday if I haven't changed due to tugginess earlier. With the price of blades and the number I have stashed, I see no need to try to stretch them. I think practicing shavette with your left hand without a blade would be a good plan. If you find you really can't get comfortable with it, there's nothing that says you can't do the whole shave righthanded - the old shave manuals all showed guys using straights with the right hand only. According to Chris @Bama Samurai, you should use a fresh blade each time in the shavette anyway. Nice lighting in the photo.
Great photo Jim. Love the filter effect. Great classic lineup. Bravo. Great photo Mark. Another great photo with wonderful warm lighting. Hang in there you'll get the hang of the pain stick.
SOTD January 15, 2018 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Proline B20 Razor: Schick G4 '66' injector Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic Soap: C.O. Bigelow cream Post: Iced witch hazel, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave WTG, touch up It's been a wild 48 hours in our house with out of town guests. They are leaving today around noon. It's been fun catching up with them and hanging out, but hosting guests is certainly a full time job. I snuck away and was able to shower and shave. Went with a Menthol Monday theme and had a great shave. Still really enjoying the Proline blade with the Schick 66 razor. All came together quite well. Enjoy your day!
Great photo Perry. I hear you. I enjoy the company but after a couple of days I am ready to have my house and life back.
