January 2018 Shavettes and Jeeves January! January 18 - Jeeves Samples Day 1 Razor - Fatip Piccolo Blades - (1) Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Abyss Brush - Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum Thursday night is my new head shave night so the Shavette theme worked with the CJB Greager pain stick again. Kai mild blade, Arko, fine shave, no blood, no problems at all. Jeeves January returns for me with some samples that arrived. I chose the Abyss, just because I had to pick one, and it lathered right up with the JR54. Same great lather the Bay Rum produces and the scent is a bit floral. I can't find a description anywhere so we'll go with that. My sense of smell is not well developed like some, though I recognized BBQ, Garlic and burgers on the grill without a problem. Very nice and somewhat light scent to this soap. Two passes and a little touch up with the Fatip and Rapira PL (chosen because it was the first Russian blade within reach) and it's a near-BBS at least. Maybe better. I like the Abyss and will use it a couple more shaves before moving on.

Enter the Dragon This was my first use of the Merkur Vision, a beast of a razor. It is giant compared to my Rockwell 6s, and of similar weight. I went for broke and used it wide open because I like aggressive/efficient razors. I used my Futur on 6, and the Rockwell on plate R6. Compared to those, I could feel the blade much more with the Vision. The shave was also closer than either of those razors. I don't remember my face being smoother. The Vision is not as comfortable on first impression, and I did get a few weepers as I learn the best technique for it. I expected the splash to burn, but it really didn't, and my face feels great now. I don't shave my mustache, but I can imagine the Vision would not be the best choice for that area because it's head is large. I'm looking forward to using this razor for years to come.

Thank you. It's funny when I sent off the 1912 to Delta Echo, I threw in an extra handle. I wasn't sure the handle had deep enough engraving to accept the coating appropriately, so I told him, "if the extra handle is workable, let's do something crazy like red." The primary goal was to have a black/grey scheme. As it turned out, he did have some difficulty with the rather shallow engraving and it took him a few tries, but he made it work. It's flawless. I think I use the red one more than the grey one, now. Here's an album if you haven't see it: https://imgur.com/a/J7QLp

Except for two tiny weepers on my chin this was a great shave - by the way, this antique Barnangens Parba stick is one hell of a fine soap and why it was discontinued so many years ago is a mystery to me. It smells so nice and does it ever lather like a champ. It also gives very good moisturizing which the Lubriderm enhanced for me. No aftershave splash was necessary for today. A special thanks to Mr Thomas Svennsen who sent me this awesome stick and a shout-out to my Plissoft for making it lather so well! Have a nice weekend!
Good looking razor. Shaves as good as any razor available. IMO, it gets an ill deserved bad rap on being unreliable. But, it just needs a little bit of maintenance and it's golden. Enjoy the shaves my friend....
