Avon didn't innovate much. Their offerings were tributes to the popular scents of the day. The upside to these vintage bottles is the original scents that Avon copied are either no longer being produced or reformulated. After trying Pinaud products and finding I enjoy Shulton Old Spice I've found many vintage Avon scents to be acceptable. Your own nose, and those around you must be the judge.
I agree, basically the Avon Spicy, and Island Lime are the two that myself and the women of the family like. My wife especially like the Avon Spicy, and I've have some rather PG-13 comments from other women, about the Avon Spicy. The wife doesn't hear about those, and I have to limit that one's use, at work. The Shulton Old Spice acts like an "Aphrodisiac" with some women. Good thing, around the wife. Maybe that is why the Shulton Old Spice and Avon Spicy are my two favorites.
I've found there's a typical surprised look, that I find comical, when I answer their inquiries of what wonderful cologne I'm wearing. They're in disbelief that that scent that they are enjoying is the lowly Old Spice aftershave and not some iconic chic cologne from finer established retailers.
I found one with a red label. Have to go look and see if maybe mines cologne rather than AS. It smells richer, stronger that the standard bottle I've been using.
The Avon,"Sure Catch" full of Avon Spicy AS. It belonged to my father. Somewhere I have a leaping trout decanter. I remember others...including the Liberty Bell...which have disappeared.
As I said before, I lean towards the cars ... and I fell for this one. 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Decanter with Mesmerize A/S. I think this was pretty late in the game for the Avon decanters and the sauce is pretty tasty. Tom.
I have a container I set one of mine in, now. I also had one that was wobbly, and it fell over. It went into the sink and broke off half of the threaded spout end, making it unable to be sealed. Lucky for me, I had ordered a dozen small hot sauce type of bottles, and emptied the remains into one of them.
