No to me. You might want to try a horse brush also.

    heheh.

Anyway, I believe that victoriasheng, and ganvillage_green both have horsehair shaving brushes on ebay.

    Make sure they've been sterilized.

There are several places that sell the Vie-long horse brushes.
BullGoose and maggards to name a few. My favorite is the 12705. Maggards has it at a good price I think.

Thanks for your help guys . I read somewhere last night to look for something different about the way the knots are made ( so they don't tangle) . Can anyone educate me further on this ?

No expert, don't yet own a hose hair brush. I've read they are prone to tangling so avoid swirling. Use paint brush strokes. I don't know what the optimum mix is, but some makers will tell the percentage of mane to tail hair used to make the knot.
If you find a vintage horse hair brush be sure it is marked "sterilized".
Hoses hair can/ did/ or still does carry anthrax. All modern brushes are treated to be safe. It's the early 1900's brushes, and specifically during WW1 that it was a problem.

I heard of the tangling but wasn't aware of the disease factor of this type .

That's one interesting looking "GEM" lol. That's like when people find a DE razor and label it a "Fatboy".

That's why you see vintage brushes proudly displaying the word "Sterilized". There are chemical baths and heat treatments that effectively kill the virus. I wouldn't be afraid of a modern brush knot. Just haven't tried one myself. I like the backbone of boar bristle so a floppy horse knot doesn't appeal.

I think that's part of why it cost less than $6.

If I get some horsehair locally, I have access to an autoclave, so I could make my own knots.
