  2. Target sells a Vie-Long horse brush $21 and some change branded for Cremo here in the States.
  3. Thanks for your help guys . I read somewhere last night to look for something different about the way the knots are made ( so they don't tangle) . Can anyone educate me further on this ?

  7. No expert, don't yet own a hose hair brush. I've read they are prone to tangling so avoid swirling. Use paint brush strokes. I don't know what the optimum mix is, but some makers will tell the percentage of mane to tail hair used to make the knot.
If you find a vintage horse hair brush be sure it is marked "sterilized".
Hoses hair can/ did/ or still does carry anthrax. All modern brushes are treated to be safe. It's the early 1900's brushes, and specifically during WW1 that it was a problem.

  8. I heard of the tangling but wasn't aware of the disease factor of this type .

  9. That's one interesting looking "GEM" lol. That's like when people find a DE razor and label it a "Fatboy".
  10. That's why you see vintage brushes proudly displaying the word "Sterilized". There are chemical baths and heat treatments that effectively kill the virus. I wouldn't be afraid of a modern brush knot. Just haven't tried one myself. I like the backbone of boar bristle so a floppy horse knot doesn't appeal.

  12. If I get some horsehair locally, I have access to an autoclave, so I could make my own knots.

  13. I have collected both mane & tail horse hair, but lack an autoclave. Maybe we can collaborate?
  14. Sure!

  15. Never had a horse brush tangle. Maybe the higher loft ones might. I dunno about all that.

  18. I also bought a few items from that seller and was watching it. But I decided I already had enough Super Speeds, at least for now anyway. I also tried one of the Wen blades. Not great, some tugging, but got a good shave.
