1. Hang in there, my friend. Some dedicated focus and a healthy dose of patience will pay off big time in terms of the quality and consistency of your shaves. I'm convinced that if you can shave well with a shavette, you can shave with ANY combination of blade and razor. My DE shaves improved dramatically following a six-month stint with a Feather AC SS shavette.
  2. Excellent! I will use the Magic today just for fun anyhow....

  6. What blades are you using? I've found blades really make little difference in a shavette.
  7. I've used several Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades lately and for me they're better than the shark blades I've used in the past.

Today -I used Gillette Nacets-they're not as forgiving as Wilkinson Swords or Sharks, but are a lot smoother and sharper.

  8. Works for me. I like that shavette lets me use up my DE stash of odds and ends.

  9. Me too. I go on a blade bender every once in a while and use up the freebies I 've gotten with other stuff.

  10. BTW-Williams is a good shavette soap-since it doesn't lather very richly without some effort, it's easy to keep a wet slick lather.

  15. I have been breaking GSB's in half and using them. A couple of the tabs on each half of the blade turn up after the blades are broken. I find they are a little fiddly to get them in the blade holder straight. Does it make any difference to purchase and use the half blades?

  16. Charlie-

If you like GSB or whatever, I suggest getting a pair of cheap large scissors, and simply cut lengthwise. Scissors break DE easily. On the Magic, which is push to load, the bended method makes no difference, but on SRX types pre-cut or scissor cut is best. Next time I buy blades it's gonna be Astra and scissors.

  18. Thanks Chris. Scissors are a great idea. I will give that a try, and I'm sure that will be an improvement. Thanks!
  19. It's how I use the DE stash. I got a pair of $2 office shears from the grocery and keep them in my bathroom drawer. Works like a charm.
