The Sputnik looking logo on the scales would place it as having been made at the STIZ factory. If the box is original it would appear it was made in the mid or later 70s. I am pretty sure the date on the box refers to the plan year that describes the specification for the manufacture (but don’t quote me on that.) I don’t know Cyrillic so no idea what model it is. I hope the shave is great. Happy honing. Karl
That was Made in the Stiz Factory in Moscow...1975 I Think as Per the 75 Digit on the Box....See @Karl G Thread here.. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/russian-straight-razor-thread.53016/page-2 Billy..
Thanks for all the help guys. Stiz, "Dawn", Made in Moscow. 1975. This all tells me it came from a reputable factory, in a desired year, for super hard PITA to hone steel, that should hold a great edge. Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Picked up this pair a week ago. Eric Anton and a Colonial razor (the etching is gone but bits and pieces of it remain) for $25+shipping. They both have wooden scales with a touch of warping. They both need an edge put on them.
I agree the blade geometry and the longer tail appear to take some clues from the De Pew. Perhaps @HolyRollah could post a pic of his for reference...
Slight similarities. Compared to the Martinez, the DePew's proportions are dramatically different as the blade is considerably smaller relative to the tail...
I didn’t design it. He had 4 available a week or so ago and I was able to grab this one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
7 Day Henkel Set Actually a six day set.Sundays blade is broken.I will just fill in Sunday with one of my 5/8 Henkels .Did not think I was gone to win this bid .Just got lucky .
Thanks Keith I plan on giving them a quick polish with Mass.I will hone them on my Couticle and Finish on my Yellow Lake .My only problem is I do not have the patience to use a seven day set .Too many razor and not enough time .
Those Razors will Take a Lovely Shaving Edge from a Coticule/Yellow Lake Finisher..The Edges I Get are Somewhat Miraculous.. Billy..
Hi Billy Thanks for letting me in on your magical hone combo for finishing .Had my best shave of the year with that hone combo an a elegant old 6/8 ERN .
A tiny Wade & Butcher made it into my mail slot today. Not your normal Chopper and I really haven’t seen this blade shape from W&B. I love the profile of this razor and that heel is just sexy. Quick shot of the size: And grind: Maybe I am just too busy looking at the big FBU’s to notice if these are selling all over the place, but I am glad I picked this up. Tom.
Herder 77 11/16 Just put some leopard wood scales on her .Blade came with out scales .Off to the Hones on Monday
