Pop Quiz. How many nights can you forget to take a carbon blade out of a razor before you turn the blade into junk? Answer? Apparently it only takes one. When I reached for the OCMM tonight I realized I had just put it in the stand last night and walked off. I usually pull the blade, dry it and the razor, and leave the blade on top of the brush handle in the brush stand to let it dry. I pulled the blade and it looked like the top edge was ok. More than the usual amount of discoloration where the razor grips it but the edge looked clean. Turned it over and.....yep.....lots of corrosion starting and the edge looked a bit compromised. I grabbed my strop and gave it about 50 strokes on each edge. That seemed to clean it up. So here goes.
The Williams tonight looked fantastic in the bowl. It even looked great on the brush. Staying with my formula of a wet puck and brush and just beating it to death. The first pass as actually not too bad until the left side when it had almost all disappeared before I started on that side. Still slick so I went with it. I did the second pass still with the carbon blade and did manage to get the Williams to stick around a bit better. At that point, though, I knew I wasn't even CCS and the blade had been rough the whole time. Not killer rough but definitely not cutting like it should. I grabbed my rescue razor for this week, the Delta Echo New LC with Sharp Star and finished a third pass. The Williams held up through that pass as well as it did the second and I found the baby under there with that final pass. Alum was warm as the blade had clearly roughed me up a bit for allowing it to get roughed up.
When I squeezed the brush out I got what I always do with Williams. Bubbles. Kind of like bubble bath bubbles. Just no solid lather that I can find, but.....I can't complain about it not providing slickness. This was day 3, so 4 more to go to try and find that perfect lather. In the meantime I'll be starting a new blade tomorrow and trying to avoid leaving it in the razor again!
Hope you had a great weekend!
