Good picture, Perry. Sorry to hear about the rotten start to your school day. A death in the school is always tough to deal with, especially when it's a completely unexpected one from an accident. I said a prayer for you and your students. As someone else said, if they want to talk about it a bit as a class, let them. It can help.
Day 3 of 2x WTG passes. Much more comfortable this time around - I really watched the pressure and made sure that I was concentrating on getting the blade angle. One thing that I did was tried to minimise the number of different directions the strokes were going in (despite sometime cutting slightly across the grain in order to achieve this), so most of my strokes end up being pretty much vertical. I have discovered that I can get a tub of Proraso White and a bottle of Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm for under £8 the pair... I think I have found my next cream/ASB for when my current lot run out! On the topic of Omega brushes - are there any that people strongly recommend? Cheers, James
February 13th Gillette pre-war Tech w Astra SP WD HM Badger/ Cypress First Canadian Soap Co Maximo Gomez Cuba SS Thayers Chatillon Lux Bon Vivant AS First shave in a few days. Had a pleasant 3 pass shave earlier this morning with one of my favourite soaps. The triangle-holed Tech is a smooth shaver, but perhaps a shade less efficient that the NEW. Good shaves, though. Finished with the excellent CL and all is good. Have a great day all!
That is one funky razor - and I mean that in a good way!! That brush is awesome too! Top notch all the way Keith!
I think there are several folks here in the 30DC that have had positive experiences with the Omega 49 boar brush, me included. It's inexpensive and works quite well. In fact, I chose this brush to be an overall winner in a superb brush trial that @PickledNorthern ran last year. It didn't come out on top, but I'm not sure you can beat the quality for the price on these.
Awesome photography Clint! That's advertisement stuff there! Love your Chubby handle. Wait...that didn't sound good, did it? Um, let's try that again. Love the color of the handle on your Simpson Chubby shaving brush!
Great gear and photo Jim! And congrats on getting a nice shave on the first run with your new razor. I quite like the color of it myself.
Chalk me up as one of those folks who really like this knot. It also pops out of its handle quite easily, which is a positive if you are planning on putting it in a nicer handle.
Yes, the handle is certainly cheap plastic, but I don't really mind that. It's a terrific budget brush.
Great looking set up, Keith. That Rocnel is a serious looking shaver! You are finishing off quite a few soaps already this year, Clint! The Soap Destroyer probably has nothing to do with it... Great picture, Jim. Your write-up has me thinking a bit, and I realize that I haven’t used a modern SE, either. Too many other vintages I’m pining for instead! So sorry for your school community this morning, Perry. I have gone through many similar experiences and they are never easy. Your school is lucky to have caring folks such as yourself guiding people through these hard days. I’d be interesting to hear your take on the SV soap and balm, Mark. I had a few of the SVs in bar soap and loved them.
Nice photo, Adam! That is totally awesome Fuzzy! and Charlie!! Fantastic photo, Clint! SO I have to ask, since I know you keep track, how many shaves on that puck of Fine ? Amazing shot, Jim! Very nice photo, Perry. My prayers and thoughts are with your school and students. Amazing photo, Mark! Amazing shot Jason, So far the pre-war tech it is the only tech that made the cut for me.
As near as I can tell, the BR131 is the same as the BT171 - I suspect that the 'br' are new numbers, and 'bt' are old numbers. The BR171 is the curved handle, and the BD191 is the smooth curved handle that was rebranded 'RazoRock' (Teck II) by Italian Barber (among others) The RazoRock DE1, I believe, is the BR171.
Thank you Dan. Thank you Bruce. I am trying different settings on the DSLR and stumbled onto this setting. I liked it so much that I had to use the same setting for a few more upcoming SOTD photos. I have been trying to pick one soap and rotate it frequently until its gone. Of course the entire year has been with brushes that eat soaps. Thank you Andrew. The fine pucks are 3.5 oz. I gave 1 oz of the Platinum to my friend Wade. If I finish it this work week those 2.5 oz will have lasted 34 shaves which is much better than my average.
Very sorry to hear such awful news Perry. It's always terrible to hear of tragedy, but it's even worse when it happens to someone with so much life ahead of them. On a positive note, great pic and gear. I'm glad that your shave was nice at least!
