SOTD February 22nd Ever-Ready 1912 Gem PTFE (5) @jtspartan Lather Bowl RazoRock Don Marco Yaqi Boar (24mm, Frigate class) An excellent shave this morning with no shortage lather. Took a little more time loading super goop style and made a very slick, shiny lather (and had to rinse half of it down the drain) in the awesome lather bowl that Jason made for me. I was talking to my wife this morning while shaving and pulled a Randy @BaylorGator and accidentally did my ATG pass second and followed it with the XTG pass. Wouldn't you know I had similar results as him too, I got a closer shave and no need for any touchup, a happy accident that will probably result in a permanent change in the way I shave. Have a great day friends!
I'm just gonna drop this on here for some entertainment... Feel free to skip to the part where he shaves.
Interesting thought on going ATG and then XTG and getting great results. Did you notice any difference in potential irritation? Do you feel that it would be similar with DE or a light Injector as well? BTW, I can't thank you enough for the trade you referenced. That 'beat up' Monobilt will soon look like the rockstar it is!
Great shaving bowl Andrew. Congrats. Am I understanding that you did WTG, ATG and XTG? If I am going three passes I sometimes mix it up that exact way. With the Cobra and General (Feather Super Pro), I can go ATG for the first pass and end up with fantastic 2 pass shaves.
I don't see any potential for more irritation and I think it would be just as effective with a DE or Injector. I cant wait to see your MonoBilt when you get it back!
Thank you Clint! that is correct WTG, ATG, and then XTG. I wouldn't think that going XTG after ATG would be effective as I would assume the ATG pass would pretty much take care of everything, but when I do a two pass WTG/ATG shave I don't end up with nearly as close of a shave as I did this morning.
It is the 2018 TOST LE. Thank you. @Jayaruh and @twhite get the credit. At least there was no Williams Molesting. I am a bit excited. Thanks to @PickledNorthern I am going to get to try the Electric Sheep I keep reading about. It will be my first Stirling soap to try also.
Your brush, your call. Since all pigs are not created equal, the bristle will vary. If it's not shedding, doesn't stink, makes acceptable lather, and doesn't irritate your skin - sounds like a keeper! I'm not trying to tell you to only have one brush. I've got 5 boar brushes. Four synths, I think. At least 3 badgers as well. Still I go back to one of my earliest; Omega Pro #10098. It's an inexpensive (some would say "cheap") plastic handle but the knot is what suits me. I bought another brand new and extracted the knot just to enjoy the same properties in another handle. I did look up the Bluebeard product line. Some of their gear appeared similar to products I've seen in photos. If they purchase and rebrand it's a common business plan. I was surprised at the prices for a lot of their line. Seemed like the logo caused a 2X or 3X price mark up. Glad that worked out for you! I've been doing W,A, & XTG for a while. I still do chin buffing and touch ups under my jaw line, but with less irritation than W-X-&-ATG. At first it was an experiment, but now it's habit.
Yeah, it seems perfectly OK. I mean it drops a hair or two here and there, nothing major though! It seems like the whole brand is built around marketing to be perfectly honest! I have purchased Nivea ASB and Proraso soap products for less combined than one tub of Bluebeards Revenge cream/ASB/Pre shave oil. For me it was overpriced for what it offered... Other people's mileage may vary! I'll just stick to the gear that I have got... Until the Proraso runs out... Then i'll try the Palmolive shave stick, they're only 49p at my local supermarket!
