  1. I fell asleep, Thank you! Perfect answers.

Yes, excellent day one. Just keep doing it. Most of us used DE backup for a while.

It means that your angle and pressure are toward the safety bar. Try and always keep the cap of the razor in contact with your skin. This will lower the attack angle and make the razor glide better, should also reduce the scraping that causes irritation.

  5. An alum block is recommended by me to all newbies. It provides absolutely objective feedback about angle and pressure. A perfect shave is the one that is smooth and where the alum produces little sensation. Most of what is removed by a razor is actually skin. Razor burn happens when the skin is exfoliated too deeply by the blade.

  6. Thanks, Clint! It should be a fun, and informative focus for me. The fact that I'm going to stick with one razor/blade combo in itself is amazing.
I picked those soaps because, one - I have those soaps. And, two, in many ways they're all somewhat similar (except that Tabac has a completely different scent). They're all great performers in their own right, and they're all classics.

I'd like to say that I'll stick with one brush for the whole month, however I can't promise that! I do have a new one arriving today though... ;)
  7. I don't want to stick to one brush for a month. I am lazy enough with the SOTD photos to stick with 1 brush for a week to make photos easier. :D

  11. Remote deserted island? I know it isn't always a fan favorite, but hard to ignore the portability and function of a good Arko Stick. Maybe Palmolive.

  12. I like the way you think! It would be way, way tougher to pick only one brush, than to pick only one razor. :)

  13. Arko seems to be in the love it or hate it camp. I happen to like the stuff. It's cheap, and it works well.
I don't have Palmolive. Yet. Next time I order from Connaught, it'll probably get tossed into the cart.

  14. We'll see how long it stays black. That coating is coming off in a few spots.

  15. I personally like Arko as well. But, I have to admit, there is something about the scent of Palmolive that takes me back to my childhood days. I would rate it a little above Arko in my list of favorites.

  17. Cool photo, Jim. I know what you mean about forgetting razors- I was digging around/cleaning up the other day and found my ball-end Canadian Tech that I haven't used in forever. Basically forgot I had it. Threw it in the travel case for next trip out.
Love that brush, Clint. Sounds like you'll definitely have the Rocnel dialed in with another few weeks of 'focus'.
    Love the photo.
So, Perry, if I asked you to rank your GEMs, what would it look like?
    Very nice looking Wolfman.
Cool rule, Adam. Between your changes at work and your renos, we just want you to be able to post again regularly!
Sounds like a very cool month. Vacation? On the cast of Survivor? On the SS Minnow? WILSON?

  20. I stopped using it because I didn't like the feeling on my face as well. I didn't get any stinging from it this morning, and if that continues I'll probably only use it as an occasional dipstick of technique (ie learning with a pain stick) as I really didn't enjoy the tight feeling after awhile again this morning.
I eliminated the Thayers from the routine and replaced it with the Alum. Any regular Alum users on here use Witch Hazel in addition to it?
