Edwin Jagger Gillette Silver Blue(4) Semogue 1305 Proraso Red Preshave Haslinger Calendula Speick AS Splash Proraso Blue AS Balm BBS shave in 3 passes, with a pinch of touch up on the chin. Did not apply alum to the lower neck and it seemed to not look as red. Going forward I think I'm going to forgo alum on the lower neck and see how it affects my neck redness. Lather still not as slick, or stable as with the Tabac. Dried out on face during shave. I loaded the heck out of the soap. Lather didn't appear to have bubbles. I wonder if I'm adding to much water? Can an over watered lather dry out on your face? The razor and blade combo worked great, and the alum sung a little on the chin and jawline around the chin. Likely caused by buffing with no residual slickness present. Getting great shaves, even with a subpar lather which is encouraging. I figured out how to lather the Tabac, now I just need to figure out how to lather other soaps, or just use Tabac exclusively. Have a nice evening and morning Gents. Two shave reports Monday, a little rushed for time so I went with my DOC Evolution and continued to try finish of this Castle Forbes. A little more irritation than normal, I think it is a left over from Sunday's shave. No time, no pic. Irritation A- Closeness A Razor: DOC Evolution (Gillette 7’Oclock Blue) Brush: Shavemac silver tip Soap: Castle Forbes AS: Lucky Tiger AS, Speick ASB Scent: Amouage Memoir Man Tuesday was a much better shave. A mixed a big bowl of wet, slick Castle Forbes and as soon as I felt the blade on my face it was game on. It was very very smooth and still sharp, no user errors and finished with an epic shave. We are remodeling our office and it is more than a little behind schedule, we now call it the ‘Gaudi project’. Me too
Lather that dries out and is not slick is usually an indication of not enough water. I face lather, so I add water and work the lather until a nice shine is evident on the lather. Shiny lather is slick lather.
March 20 SOTD: Razor: Vanta Blade: Sputnik Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Aurora Lather: Stirling San Antonio Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Chypre Rose Concerto Additional Care: Stirling Unscented PSB After some discussion with @PickledNorthern, I loaded a full Sputnik blade into the Vanta this morning. I got a one pass CCS, maybe even a DFS. Really just a great shave. Some Chypre Rose Concerto topped off this top not shave. I hope everyone has a great day!
March 20, 2018 Colonial Razors Brass General Feather Super Pro WDC-6 with El Druida Manchurian Jeeves Bay Rum Krampert’s Bay Rum Aftershave A lot of rough weather rolled through the southeast last night. I hope everyone is safe and not impacted by the weather. Another great shave this morning. Feeling very confident, I decided to go a two pass shave starting with ATG followed by XTG. I used this same approach with the Mongoose and Feather Super Pro blade with good success. The results this morning were excellent. With minimal touch ups on my neck, I easily caught the baby. I did end up with 2 small weepers near my chin preventing would would have been an epic shave. A splash of Krampert's Finest and I am off to visit a client this morning. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.
SOTD March 20, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Vintage Personna Ultra Chrome Razor: Personna injector Brush: Surrey restored badger Soap: Stirling The Lounge Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Zi'Peppino aftershave Easy and comfortable shave with the Tobacco Tuesday theme. Stirling lathers so easily and makes some slick stuff. Really enjoyable. The scent of the Zi'Peppino splash matches pretty closely to The Lounge. It's a green tobacco scent. Also tried a vintage Personna injector blade, courtesy of @EzraCobb. It was smooth and easy to use. All around very enjoyable shave. Have a great day!
Thank you, Clint! The Derby blades I have been using are half blades that came with the Classic Samurai, so it hasn't been a problem just yet, but this saves me from having to get more half blades in the future.
Thanks, Clint. Jim, you could just present a picture of your brush & handle each day and skip the rest. That handle steals the attention every time. Thanks, Jim.
