But in a good way, right? Wait a little while and pick one up on the second hand market. Someone else can take the retail hit. You'll scoop it up at a discount!
So in being that I am in japan and will be living here for the next three years I figure I will do a 30 day focus with a kamisori once I find one here that I like. I did find a store a few days ago that has all kinds of blades and stones so I plan to go back and check it out.
Awesome plan. I have a kamisori that still needs to be honed. I may try to get that done in time to join you when you find yours.
March Madness!!! March 22 Razor - 1959 (E1) Gillette Super Speed Blade - (1) Soap - Proraso Green Tub Brush - Stirling Two Band Synthetic Post - Alum On to the Ladas blade tonight. A very fine blade and it matches very well with the Super Speed. If you ever wanted to go minimalist this setup would be a fine one. SS, Ladas, Proraso, Stirling Synthetic. Easy, inexpensive and it delivers a great shave. The baby showed up for another appearance and alum was silent. It really doesn't get much better than this. I always like it when a setup like this one works so well because it further proves Technique Trumping Tools. Basic Gillette workhorse razor and a good Russian blade with inexpensive software - as good as any shave that would cost twice as much or more. Good day today, though the rain crept in late. We got storage set up today and made a couple of runs hauling stuff to save on the work next weekend. About the time we stopped the rain was starting. Tomorrow they are saying rain all day so I feel some more packing and indoor work will be the rule of the day. We're getting there. Just over a week to go in March and once again it's been a busy and fun month around here! Due to my schedule next weekend I will probably not get April opened up until late on the 31st, so just keep it going here through the end of the month as always! For those wondering - it's Arko Adjustable April! I'm thinking you can figure that one out. One of our traditional monthly themes as we approach MAYhem!!
I bring home flowers every week when I come off the road. And a can of ether. I start with the flowers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

March 23, 2018 Colonial Razors Brass General Feather Super Pro WDC-8 with El Druida Manchurian AOS Peppermint Shaving Cream Friday at last! A great shave this morning. I really enjoy the feeling of this brush in my hand. The brass handle provides a solid feel and the knot is a great mixture of srub and flow through. The cooling sensation of the AOS Peppermint is very nice. I would say it is a stronger chill than the C.O. Bigelow. I started off with an ATG pass followed by a XTG pass which left me with an almost perfect shave. Minimal touch ups and buffing around my mouth and on my lower right neck let me catch the baby with ease. Overall an epic shave. A splash of Fine Lavender kept the peppermint theme going. I hope everyone has a Fantastic Friday.
SOTD March 23, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Vintage Personna Ultra Chrome Razor: Schick L5 'Revere' injector Brush: Omega 10049 boar Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave Top notch shave with my usual Friday setup. Not much to report. Terrific all around. I'm enjoying these vintage Personna Ultra Chrome injector blades. The Schick Revere razor is fun to use. Mild but effective. All around great way to start off on a Friday. Have a great day!
Great B&W photo Perry and Happy Friday. If I remember correctly you're on spring break next week. So this Friday is really a good day.
Beautiful picture, Clint! Thank you, Clint! I really like this knot. It is by far the best badger knot I have, and it whips up a great lather. It has plenty of backbone bone, but it is still soft.
Thank you Jim. Also, thanks for answering my question on the brush. I know first hand he does excellent work on the handles but I have never tried his knots.
Obviously, you have quite more knowledge of Badger knots, really brushes in general, than I do. My opinion may be skewed by my lack of experience with better knots.
From everything I have read his knots are really nice. When Mark, Doug and I had him make the "Amigos" handle he was not sourcing his own knots, so we went with an Envy White. The shop is only about 10 miles from my house so I when I went to pick up our handles I was like a kid in a candy store. I am amaed I walked out without buying something else.
This is the first day in a long while where I haven't come in to at least 5 pages to catch up on. A veri setup and looks good too, Neal! Fantastic photo, Jim. That shavette is a very interesting design! Beautiful photo, Clint! And congrats on the epic shave! Very nice Perry! My Spring Break Starts in 8 hours as well!
