Thank you, Andrew. I have about two more shaves with the San Antonio. I should finish this one and the tube of Arko this week.
Thank you, Jason. Florida Water is fantastic and last a while. It is amazing at how the scent changes over time, though. When I first put it on, it is very citrusy. After a while, it is much more spicey. Two Girls Florida Water is quite a bit different, as well. Another favorite of mine, which I should bring out soon.
That's great to hear! Of course, a big part of her procedure's success was that she was scrupulously diligent during the postop and rehab unlike many patients.
Thank you, gentlemen! I know I have some kind of Schick Repeating Razor(s) somewhere in my old collection cartons, but I have never tried to use them. Mainly because I couldn't figure out how to get a fresh modern injector blade loaded in them. This will be a big help! And now I know what I am going to do this year for MayHem -- fire up all the really vintage safety razor systems in my collection and try them out -- Schick Repeating Razors, Rolls Razors, Valet Autostrops with genuine carbon Valet blades to strop on them (I have about a dozen boxes of NOS blades), Wilkinson Sword and other wedge razors with the vintage wedges, etc. It may end up a little bloody but it will be a ton of long overdue fun...
That sounds like a great plan, John! I still have some of the Twin blades you sent out a while back. I need to load another of those in my L or M injector.
I have just won the bidding on this beautiful razor on ebay... Cost me a whole 99p (plus £1.80 postage).
That will be up to her. It will be interesting which path she takes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Look s practically brandnew, and the bladestops are in perfect shape! Should be a superb shaver! Well done, especially at that price!
Tuesday April 3 - adjustable sampling begins Gillette Black Beauty on 4 / Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (7) Nameless Chinese hardwood brush reknotted with Maggards 24mm plissoft knot The Dry Dock shave bowl B&M Glissant Seville sample Alum and Florida Water The plissoft knot whipped up a great lather today from the remains of the Seville sample. I realized why I couldn't really tell much about the scent of Seville -- I don't know what half the things in smell like when they are relaxing at home by themselves, which makes it difficult to pick them out in a mixture. Lemon I know, and lavender, and rosemary I have an idea about. But bergamot? Oakmoss? Patchouli? I'm lost. Anyway, the mix is quite nice, although I don't care for it enough to want to go buy a tub even after my NB'18 is over. I go another excellent shave from this 7 O'Clock blade, switched over from the Rockwell 6S to the Schick Krona and now to the Gillette Black Beauty. However, I decided that I had pushed it far enough with 7 shaves and it's time to change out for a fresh one. I'm not hanging with the Excalibur Club at B&B anymore, trying to eke each blade out to the last sliver of steel so no need to push from good shaving down into wretched territory. (Actually, when I was trying the Excalibur route, I had no idea what a really good shave felt like anyway, so it was kind of pointless then too...). I had some trouble getting the blade into my metal blade bank (branded with the Rockwell Razors logo), so I think I have hit another milestone of sorts and filled up my first standard-sized generic metal blade bank. Time to squish the lid on this one flat and drop it into recycling. Then I guess I will break out a pill bottle to hold blades until the next time I do a large order at a mailorder shaving company and can piggyback a blade bank onto the shipping... sometime in 2019....
Bergamot; Citrus because it comes from a fruit somewhere between an orange and a grapefruit. Oakmoss; Dirt, forest floor, tree bark, leather. Patchouli; Hippies, or a dark, musky-earthy aroma reminiscent of wet soil. The bergamot sounds like a mid or top note that fades quickly. Many citrus oils are that way - they don't last long. The other two more base note - after the other scents fade they continue much longer.
My new toy arrived today, just too late to partake in today's shave: Jayaruh #276 -- white ash from a Louisville Slugger stub topped with an Omega Pro boar knot. Here it is forming a good pair with my Jayaruh #267 in birdseye maple:
