  1. Thanks, Jason! These razors were made between 1927 and 1932, so the art deco appearance comes honestly. Really a neat razor.

Sounds like you've thought a lot of things through, and have come to a good place personally.
  3. I see you we have another firearms enthusiast. I too see those at the range that bring every rifle and pistol they own. While I own more than one firearm, I tend to stay with the same platform. This allows me to better focus my training time and further hone the muscle memory needed during high stress.

I think the biggest thing to take away is a sense of balance and know when you've reached a saturation point. This applies to hobbies, careers and life in general. We each have to evaluate and understand that for our life.
  4. Wonderful photo Amigo. Love the brass General.

    I hear you Mark.

  5. Great photo and write up Jason.

Thank you Jason. I never tried the older C&E hard soaps. I likely would have never tried the cream if not for it being a gift from my wife and girls. I used a brush and soap from the drug store for years back in the early 80s and 90s. Not sure why I stopped but I got back into wet shaving in the fall of 2014.

Thank you Clint. Your posts in The 400 Club helped to spark my desire to own one. Receiving a B-400 handle from Tom gave me ability to let my unnumbered Rubberset go in a trade.
Classic Buck Rodgers styling. Ergonomic shape fits the hand well. I haven't tried the plastic ones, but the aluminum handles have a nice weight to them.

The original Rubberset 400 has a threaded ferrule. The ring around the knot can be unscrewed from the base. They were constructed from cast metal and the lower section is hollow. Although they can take a great shine sometimes pitting or flaws in the metal may show imperfections.

Several companies have produced replicas and they tend to solid handles instead of hollow. To cut production cost a one piece design is common.

I like all my brushes, but a 400 with swappable knots is top notch!

  10. I really enjoy collecting gear, but lately I've been seriously considering reducing my actually in use rotation to just those examples that perform best for me. The though of applying this focused approach to other aspects of life is very intriguing to me. Very deep and thought provoking post Chris!

The only thing I can say about this shave is flawless. After not using Arko for a while its always a surprise how slick it actually is. I bumped up the setting on my Ming Shi from 2 to 3 for today's shave. A little more blade feel but not harsh, still relativity smooth, BBS finish. I haven't had a shave this close in recent memory. A dab of Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill for a temporary face freeze and to keep the citrus vibe going. Have a great day my friends!
