  5. Saturday April 7 morning shave - sampling

    Gillette Black Beauty on 4 / Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless ( 4 )
JR #276 white ash and boar brush
    The Dry Dock shave bowl
    First Canadian Maximo Gomez soap
Alum and Portland General Store Black Willow Bark Toner

There was enough soap left in the bowl after yesterday's shave to use today. The big boar brush did an excellent job of whipping it into a slick, creamy lather. Two passes gave me a high-grade DFS without any irritation. For a change of pace, I finished off with the willow bark toner. It leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed but the scent leaves something to be desired -- vinegar and tree bark...
  6. April 8 Plans

    Parker SRX shavette
    Perma-Sharp Super (2)
Rudy Vey Chubby handle with Shavemac Two-band Silvertip knot
    Mike's Natural Soap - unscented
Thayers, Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, Fine L'Orange Noir, and Terre d’Hermès Parfum

After five months of use, I replaced the Chubby 2 Super (aka the Soap Destroyer) with my RV brush. This is a LE brush that I picked up a few years ago. I have no. 15, as my Dad was born in 1915.

After a couple of months of regular use, I've become comfortable using the Parker SRX as an everyday razor. For daily shaves, I'll go with one pass. If I go for two passes, I'll skip a day between shaves. I plan to use it for most of April and then return to DE shaving for awhile. If you've been considering a shavette, this is the one to get. It is a steal at $25, relatively easy to learn, and delivers a wonderfully close and comfortable shave once you get the hang of it. The trickiest part for me is taking time (and wearing my glasses) to ensure the blade is inserted evenly. If the blade edge is uneven, it is more prone to cause minor nicks and boo boos.

I hope you all have a great Sunday!

  9. I was pretty rushed before work today. I did want to play along some though. So here we have Arko and a Slim loaded with a 5 or 6 day old Family Dollar Dorco. The TOST LE by Jayaruh did a fantastic job as usual. No issues at all with the Slim on 9. Clubman Musk is still smelling great! Work a shift at a plant gate tonight. Easy money watching it rain.

  10. Fantastic set up and a beautiful brush, Fuzzy! Your SOTD makes me want to pick up my Slim after I finish my current run with the shavette.

I hope you have a smooth night at work to match your shave. Stay dry!

  11. It was a great shave. Not my favorite razor my any means but they do shave good. @Jayaruh and @twhite did a great job with the brush. Jim turned the handles and Tom cut the metal parts.

Actually shaved early this morning, but just haven’t had a chance to post until now. Had a team fundraiser and then coaching clinic all day. I was inspired by John @Screwtape talking about FC soap yesterday and wanted to break mine out. Top notch lather with a fantastic tobacco and citrus based scent. 2 quick passes, followed by the excellent Jeeves splash and I’m not sure how a 2 pass shave can be any better. I’ll still try tomorrow though!
    Have a great evening all.
