Naturally, the smart man must have a back up plan in case of equipment failure, defect or loss. Carry on!
Thanks, Dan. The response to something like this can give one some hope for the human race though. The local blood service was afraid the accident would cause a run on the area's blood supplies and put out a call for donors. The result was a run on the donor clinics instead; so many people lined up they had to ask some volunteers to come back on another day to donate because they couldn't physically process them all. And a local Humboldt resident set up a GoFundMe page for donations to help the victims and their families (15 dead now and 14 injured). It has been donated to not just by Saskatchewan but by the whole North American hockey world and has raised over $2.2 million in less than a day...
The razor has only lasted a century! With a dubious reliability record like that you had better get several backups!
Which plate size(s) did you settle on for your Karve? Be sure to post pics and a full report when it arrives!
Don't say that too loud around here. There are ENABLERS around every corner. I know - they've done their best to corrupt even me. You go along for a year or so, happy with three soaps, a few razors (ok, maybe more than a few) and a small collection of brushes (3, maybe 4) then....an ENABLER pops up. A tub of soap shows up in the mail. A gift from a "well-wisher". You thank them, try it, like it, and think about a sample or two to go along with it. Then another ENABLER pops up. "Have you tried ________soap? It's as good as what you received!". Hmmmmm. Maybe a sample from there too. In the meantime another freebie shows up. More samples. Samples turn into full tubs. Of course, with new soaps a nice new brush would be nice. Wow. I like that synthetic. Maybe I should try another. Before you know it you're moving and find yourself with a huge tackle box full of gear, along with two more packing boxes. I'm telling you.....these ENABLERS are dangerous. Keep a sharp lookout. And if you think you spot an ENABLER, feel free to message me immediately. I'll help you avoid them while pointing you to some very fine products. It's the least I can do.
Listen to Neal! He'll help you avoid all those dreadful ENABLERS while giving useful tips on bulk blades to try any time your personal stock drops below a thousand or so...
Funny you should mention bulk buying blades. I was thinking about apocalypse preparation... I was thinking of a bulk buy of GEM Stainless blades from Connaught! How long can I expect them to last (staying sharp)?
You’re right, John. When something tragic like this happens all the goodness in people comes out because everyone is affected in some way. It reminds us that most people are good and are willing to help each other in spite of the evil acts we hear about in the news. Just remember there are far, far fewer bad people in the world than good people. Unfortunately, it takes a sad event like this to remind us of that. Bless all of those affected by this terrible loss in Humboldt.
I must be doing ok then. One soap, 3 DE's, 2 SR's and 2 brushes! I started DE shaving because it was cheaper than cartridges, but realise that it can easily become a expensive hobby. I've resisted adding to my collection. In reality I can live with only my R41 which is my daily driver and awesome. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
Stainless blades, especially with the coatings on them, can only realistically be expected to remain sharp for a century or so. Your great-grandson may have to junk whatever is left over by then...
You let your stock drop below 1000?!?! Why would you run out of blades like that? Sent from my Z899VL using Tapatalk
SOTD April 8, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Proline AC Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Black Tea aftershave No picture today. One pass WTG with no clean up for pretty nice results. This Jeeves soap is great stuff. I might leave it out and just use it all week until Friday when The Fat comes back out. We're going to get some lunch and do some grocery shopping followed by watching the final round of The Masters. Hopefully it's no more busy than that! Enjoy your day!
A silly mistake. I signed up for NB'18 without checking my blade stocks. I'll just have to make 1000 or so last to the end of the year. Of course, if things get desperate, I have about the same in injector blades plus a bulk box of Gem PTFE SE blades to help eke them out... But you're right, it's pretty slim pickings here really...
Wow. That brush is gorgeous. At some point I am going to buy a brush with a stunning blue handle. Just not now.
April 8, 2018 Oxford Razor Handle with unknown head Feather Oxford brush with TGN Finest AOS Peppermint Cream A late start today with a late shave. I was able to sleep in today and took full advantage of the opportunity. I decided to mix things up for the weekend and pull out the razor and brush my wife gave me for Christmas. In fact this entire lineup is made up of Christmas gifts. I am enjoying the peppermint cream. It is easy to lather, great scent, slick and cooling. I anticipate buying this one again. Three passes and touch ups had the baby in reach. Throwing caution to the wind, I buffed out my lower right neck and caught the little guy. A splash of witch hazel with menthol followed by Fine Lavender left my face smooth and refreshed. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
