  1. I forget, does August have a theme? If not, how about "Austere August"?

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Personna
    Razor: Schick B1 injector
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Blue Barbershop aftershave

Really enjoyable midweek shave. Unapologetically keeping on with the Jeeves Bay Rum. Really enjoy this soap and its performance. Put a new Personna blade in the B1 and was rewarded with smooth results. I enjoy the Blue Barbershop and am surprised by how much menthol it contains. It's pretty chilly! That doesn't bother me as I enjoy menthol splashes but it might really catch someone off guard.

All in all a fine shave. Enjoy your day!

  12. Thank you, Clint! Barbon is from Hungary, available on eBay. Pretty good performance, nice scent, especially the AS. The AS has a nice hit of menthol, and the whole package works together for a nice, comfortable shave.
  13. August has been Adjustable August, though we've combined that with Arko April . That is a possibility.

  14. Wednesday April 11 - new sample
    IMG_00000225.jpg
Pal adjustable injector on lowest setting / Schick Super Chromium ( 2 )
JR #276 white ash and boar brush
    The Dry Dock shave bowl
    Fendrihan Lavender and Sandalwood soap
Alum and TSD Milk Aftershave mixed Lavender and Sandalwood

My latest sample is a generous offering from Fendrihan. Their sample comes as a bag of soap chips. I had a couple bags of the Lavender and Sandalwood soap. When I wetted them and crushed them down into a stainless steel cup, they formed about a 2 oz puck.

Fendrihan's store brand soap is made for them by someone in Germany. It's a vegan soap centred around glycerin and palm oil. It smells nice, lathers easily and provides a decent clean shave performance. However, I think I have been spoiled lately -- my last three soaps (B&M Reserve, First Canadian and Soapy Bathman) have all been tallow soaps with stuff like lanolin mixed in. They provided superb shave performance including incredible residual slickness between lathers and wonderful postshave face feel. By contrast, the Fendrihan soap is a very good shave soap, possibly even an excellent shave soap, but it's not a "top tier" soap.

Mind you, it's also I think half to two-thirds the price of the others...

Anyway, it was a good easy shave today. Two passes to a DFS with no irritation. And any lack in the postshave feel of the soap was made up for by the aftershave balm.

I expect I will be shaving with this sample for awhile -- tub loading the brush from a 2 oz puck means it's going to last for quite a few shaves. Although the soap itself seems a bit softer than the latest ones I was using.

Hope everyone is looking over the hump towards the end of a good week!

  16. Yet another great shave this morning with Chiseled Face. When I entered TSD, I recall that many members were talking Chiseled Face. I'm glad I looked into it. Great stuff. SMOOTH. (Course then along came this thing called Stirling, then Rte66, etc...etc...etc..).

Another great shave with the Slim and Dorco. I'll possibly do one more tomorrow with this combo and then switch to the Fatboy for Friday.

  19. Of course, from a Christian perspective, there is probably an argument for doing it the other way around (i.e., Austere April) given a tie-in to the idea of giving things up for Lent.
