Wednesday April 18 - Eucalyptus mini-Focus Supply Co V.2 SE injector / Personna (5) JR #267 birdseye maple and boar brush Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream Osage Rub It was back to the Vitos eucalyptus scented shaving cream again today, this time lathered with boar brush #1 while boar brush #2 rests. As usual, no problem face lathering the cream. Today I was satisfied with a single "one and done" pass with the injector, shaving XTG. The result was somewhere between CCS and DFS -- certainly good enough for all practical purposes this week. A splash of the Osage Rub extended the eucalyptus vibe and added a bit of menthol freeze to the mix. Hope you are all doing well as we reach the hump of the week!
April 18, 2018 OneBlade Genesis V2 Feather FHS RV Rover with TGN Finest C&E West Indian Lime Folsom & Co Capri Crazy weather we are having here in Atlanta. Near freezing one morning and the next day in the 80s F. At least it is not boring. A very nice relaxing shave this morning. Everything just works very well together. I must say the brush is stealing the show this week. The little Rover has just been a joy to use. With a fresh blade, I went with a 2 pass shave this morning starting with an ATG followed by XTG pass. With minimal touch ups I really scared the baby. A splash of Folsom & Co Capri kept the citrus theme going. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
Great photo and report, Clint! I have never used a lime cream or soap, although I have been curious about them. I have also been tempted by your reports on the One Blade. I have been rather discouraged again by the pricetag though, especially when I already have at least 20 perfectly adequate modern or vintage razors in my rotation (mostly vintage razors bought at junk prices but they're still working razors...)
Congrats on the razor. I have one inbound with a C plate as well (at least assuming it doesn't fall into the black hole that is the North Houston USPS Distribution Center). I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it as you use it.
SOTD April 18, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Razor: Schick M1 adjustable Brush: Zenith B02 boar Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Blue Barbershop aftershave Pulled the only adjustable I own to at least touch base with the theme. I plan to use Arko again at some point before the month is over. In any event, this was a nice and easy shave. I'm so impressed with the Jeeves soap. I'll get some more of it down the line as I'm trying desperately to not buy any more soap for the time being. I have too much and need to use some up. I'm really enjoying the Blue Barbershop scent from RazoRock. It's packed with menthol and has a bright scent that I can't sufficiently describe. It's supposed to be a copy of Floid Blue but some others around TSD have said it's not really a match. I enjoy it regardless. I'm off to Montgomery, Alabama this morning and will be there until Saturday in order to attend the Alabama All-State Band Festival. But my wife and little boy are coming down tomorrow afternoon to stay with me, so that will be fun. It's going to be The Fat for the next three shaves. Have a great day!
SOTD - DE Shave # 2 Razor - Merkur Progress Blade - Astra Superior Platinum Brush - 24 mm Fendrihan black and white synthetic Shave soap - Fendrihan Sandalwood and Lavender After Shave - Dove Hydrate + Post Shave Balm Rexal Styptic Stick Second shave went much better. My neck doesn't feel like it's on fire. Attempted to ride the cap and feel it went well. I still ended up with a slight nick along my beard close to my chin and some redness in a couple of spots on my right side. So far I've realized that shaving my right side of my neck, being right-hand is the hardest part. I didn't have any burn until my second pass though when I went across the grain. May try to make my second pass with the grain next time to see how that goes. Also I don't think my aftershave does much to help. I have some Stirling Soap Co. aftershave on its way to help. ***Follow up - by the time I got to work the razor burn was gone. Definitely a successful shave! Have a great one. Cheers Montie
April 18 SOTD: Razor: Gem MMOC Blade: Gem Stainless Brush: Frank Shaving Pur-Tech Lather: Jeeves of Hudson St Bay Rum Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Gratiot League Square Additional Care: Stirling Unscented PSB A quick knew pass this morning, and I was reminded that this razor does need a little concentration. I had one weeper as I got a little carefree. Still a decent shave. I am off today as my kids are on my spring break this week. We are heading on a day trip to @RyX's part of the country. I hope everyone has a great day!
April 18th Short Black Beauty w Rapira Swedish SS (2) WD HM Badger / Cypress Stirling Baker St SS Thayers CL Unconditional Surrender AS Another nice shave with the SA and Rapira this morning. The Baker St is on its last legs, one more shave and it will be done. One more shave with this razor and I’ll pull out the long-handled version after that. Have a great day all!
Thank you John. So far Mystic Water had the best scent of any lime soap or cream I have used. I do want to try Mike's Lime next. I love the citrus scents even though they do not last long at all. While I enjoy the OneBlade, I can see where it would have limited appeal to anyone in the hobby. For a modern SE razor I highly recommend the General in the material of your choice. With a regular blade it is like a New LC and with a Super blade it really is super efficient while still being smooth. The price of the General is much more reasonable and the blades last much longer than the Feather blades for the OneBlade.
There's something about my WSP "Pure Badger" I don't like(and I know I've talked about this before). Seriously considering exchanging it for another Burma Shave(which I'd get at a drug store). Course I'd "exchange" the Badger into the trash. It just looks so weird as I load it. Not like my others. Didn't someone put up a cartoon a while back where a guy yells "We don't have no stinkin' badgers!". Having said all this, I did get a nice shave-it spread the Bay Rum soap in the usual way.
