Good evening gentlemen! Another day of fine shaves and photos! Patrick @nein9nein, no, no, no! You're a maniac!

Pretty good shave tonight. I spent some extra time touching up my neck which resulted in a couple of hot spots from the alum and some redness for no discernible difference in the quality of my shave. I won't be doing that again.

    Have a good night all!

Okay, overcome with awe and admiration by the blistering pace into MAYhem set first by Chris @SharptoothC with his barehanded blade and now by Patrick of Triple 9 Engineering, I have decided to fall prey to my lemming instincts and do ONE (1) genuine MAYhem shave this year. It will take place tomorrow morning, assuming sanity doesn't prevail in the intervening twelve hours, and will involve an actual cheap and chintzy little plastic paint scraper tool from Lee Valley but reloaded with a shaving quality blade.

Here is the instrument of doom, with the locking door open:

    IMG_00000237.jpg

I cheated (naturally) and tried a careful dry run first using a reversed blade. I believe the angle from the lip of the plastic edge to the edge of the blade is such that one can actually "ride the cap" on this device and possibly even achieve a decent shave. Time will tell. If I am wrong, I have cleansing alcohol, witch hazel, styptic pencil and bandaids on standby, and I got the brushes from my recent PIF off in the mail today just in case...

    Thanks Clint!
The soap worked well. It loaded fast and seemed to lather to the consistency I like quicker than my other soaps.

Dont confuse them with blades marked #9 like in this pic . These are 2 faceted and the shaving type are 3 faceted which can be seen under a magnifying glass.

    Razor - Soyuz 1
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Soap - TimBreeze Russian Shaving Cream ??!!
Brush - Russian Boar - seriously - it's a brush. Kind of, and it's brushier on the second use. Is that a word?
    Post- Alum

Let's stay with the start of MAYhem and use the same questionable razor, good blade, questionable brush and change shaving creams. How about the TimBreeze? I had some trouble translating this one due to the shiny box and figured what the heck......last night's cream was quite good.

Well, there's a problem. I put some of the "cream" in the mug, soaked the Russian brush thingy well, and went to town to produce a lather. Only to watch the "cream" just disappear. As in......nothing. Just kind of a slick residue. Huh?! Ok, let's add some more and try the Stirling two banded synthetic. It'll lather anything. And........ummmmmmm......no it won't. Again, the "cream" went missing. Ok, so maybe this is brushless and just doesn't like the brush? Put some in my hands, rubbed them vigorously together and then on my face and I got......a fairly nice face feel with a nice almond scent. But still no lather. Face lather with the two brushes? Nothing. Confusion reigned.

Oh well, it's MAYhem. If the "cream" fails what do you do? You shave on whatever it left. So that's what I did. With a slightly wonky razor. I did manage to get a decent shave. Slightly better than CCS, low end DFS kind of finish. The alum is pretty warm from the lack of slickness but, I'm a wannabe Russian, I can handle it.

Ok, let's go to the webpage of the soap as I found the address on the box. Translate the page, look for the product, slightly different box designs but I get the name out of it and......oh. There it is. This "cream" is after shave lotion. NOT shaving cream. Which means the comrade over in Moscow either threw the wrong box in the cream selection or just decided to clear the shelf of something he had extra of. The jokes on the czar, it seems.

Well, what's MAYhem without a bit of confusion and puzzlement ending in a shave using after shave lotion as a substitute lather?

Classic stuff here. And the analysis of the required technique is spot on. Now, if only it works! I also approve of the emergency kit....add phone within reach and 911 on speed dial. You know, just in case.

Gotta love that one. Shavettes definitely provide the proof that the shave is in the one shaving, not the blade he puts in the holder.

Meh... I built one out of a coat hanger...
    Not every one...but a few.

Ahhhhhh the BEAST E2. Yes I do have one of those. I also have one not so bad and a G8 that is just as much of one. But a clutch is a clutch....keep on keeping on.

    Yeaaaa I got nuttin here...

That razor will almost run itself. Great choice. Flat on face to start and light pressure. Oh and say nice things to that double headed stuff. It's about to get lonely. We have a loaner program started across the street so you can try more.

Glad to see things running along here. I hope to get to post more.

Maniac...that seems to be the general consensus in my house last couple days . I'm fine with that title . Great shave btw. Sacre bleu...thats got to be a winner.

On the bright side you wont have to buy more aftershave anytime soon.
Thanks . And just to clarify i made this before the beer and not after.

Today I made a stop at my favorite little eclectic antique store during lunch. I had a few good razor scores there last year, but havent found much lately. Today, I saw several razors that I hadn't seen before, and one brush that looked like it had the mange. No markings on the handle, so I passed on it. At first look, most of the razors were ones that I already had better looking versions of, aside from a Valet that I had no interest in. They all looked fairly grimey. There was a GEM Featherweight in the pile. I already own one, and this one was pretty dirty. Problem is, the cap on mine is loose won't hold the blade as tight as I'd like. This one was solid functionally but hecka gross looking. I took a chance on it for a couple bucks and after a couple of hours soaking, it cleaned up good as new. Looks like it never saw a hard days work. Perhaps it was just stored poorly and left to sit. Either way, it looks brand new now, and it got the call tonight along with a GEM blade, Barrister and Mann Latha Taiga, Maggard Plissoft brush and good old Skin Bracer to finish it off. It all seems pretty tame and devoid of MAYhem (to be fair, the shave was super smooth and uneventful), but realize that I used a Fall scent in the Springtime and didn't shave until well after midnight with a first time razor, and well, you can start to see that risks were taken.
