  1. Thank you Jared.

I can so empathize with your thoughts. There are days I just hope to live long enough to see the end of their education.

  3. I know. I figure I have a couple of years to turn my headspace around before I make it a self fulfilling prophecy.

You and I are gonna have to go on a serious bender one of these years. If we live that long.

  4. Good one.
  5. I rushed home today to attend Maya’s Bachelorette tomorrow. Doctor’s orders or not, I’m have a few adult beverages tonight. I’m freaking exhausted.

  7. Fantastic gear and set up, Jim!
Great photo and super cool that you can have some fun shaving time with your boy. If you’re not putting a blade to it, Williams is a good choice...;)
Well, at least you know you can shave with them if you have to, John. Might as well use what you enjoy.
Yup, it does look like a pretty steep angle all right. Not much flat surface on the pen for the glue to adhere to either. There has to be a few nominations coming out of that, though...:happy088:

  9. Even though mine are quite a few years away from leaving home, I get it. It isn’t lost on me that I’ll be retiring some time around when my kids are University aged. No work and no kids around at the same time. I’ll have to find new purposes in life.
Hey! I didn’t see you at some of my wife’s family functions, but you must have been there based on this report...
Merci. Just trying to keep up with the Joneses.

  10. Yes. It's like the shavettes and the straight razor: I used them enough to prove to myself that I could shave with them if I had to, and also enough to know that I don't really enjoy shaving with them. So that's done and I have moved on to using razors I do enjoy. Although my Thiers Issard straight razor has been sitting on the BST now for over a month with no bites, so I may end up with that one for the long haul after all...

  15. I certainly agree to THAT.

  16. I thought the glue, sort of stuck in the valley between the blade and the clip would hold better than it did.

No nominations here. For a couple of years, I have bailed on any Mayhem stunts for one reason or another. If I didn’t get after one pretty soon, I was gonna have to hand in my stripes.

I might accept “Stupidest shaving contraption that failed”.

  19. Head to CVS and buy their SE blades. Great carbon blades. The MMOC is a valid razor for MAYhem too. It's an awesome shaver but can bite without warning!

  20. MAYhem 2018!!!!!

    May 5

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post- Alum

After last night's surprisingly not bad shave with the Curley I knew I had to give it a good trial. I expected to toss this one after the first use (or in the middle of it) but, to my surprise, it wasn't bad. Wasn't great either but, you know, it worked. I opened up the Fatboy to my namesake setting, grabbed the JR46 and loaded up with Jeeves Bay Rum. Got a great thick and slick lather and went to work. Two passes, some touch up, DFS is the finish and the alum was, like last nighy, just a bit hot in areas. Again, a not bad result, though I would have to say the feel during the shave was improved over last night. Smooth and quite effective in the wide open Fatty. Can't complain at all.

I'll give it one more shot tomorrow to see how it makes it through 3 shaves. Like @John Ruschmeyer said earlier, it's a bit maddening because it isn't a "WOW" blade, nor is it horrid. You really wish it wasn't just so......so.........Derbyish. You know.......ordinary. But you can't argue with the finish.
