Great picture Jason! I like how the shadows bring out the highlights! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Haven’t had time to read the thread today, but needed to share. I just went through security at LAX and there was an elderly Chinese gentleman in a wheelchair behind me. When his bags came through I noticed his name was Hung Wong. You can’t make this stuff up, folks. So, if your morning shave wasn’t exemplary today, it could be worse. You could be Hung Wong.
I have a cousin named Wilson. Many years ago some of us other cousins were teasing about if he became an uncle...he'd be "Uncle Wilson". Kinda like "Uncle Johnson" or "Uncle Jones". Well, he's been an uncle for 18 years now.
While some of us have been busy with stunt shave ideas, I find myself at the risk of winning the "Most Shaves That Are Exactly The Same As The Day Before With One Exception, According To The Report" award, should such an award be part of the Shaveys.
Great photo and shave Jason. Fine soaps have grown on me as well. I don't like that they seem to leave a white film on the razors. Just a nitpick of mine.
Once you have mastered attack angle and know what good pressure feels like, all razors just become blade holders. You can use anything you like now, and it should be ok.
While the Guru says all razors become bladeholders, I find I like some bladeholders better than others. And Gem SE ones don't really wow me. Despite this, I am finishing using all of my models in turn. This photo shows my rigs for the next two shaves: Featherweight (left) and Damaskeene (right). Tuesday May 8 Gem Featherweight. / Gem PTFE (6 ) JR #267 birdseye maple and boar brush Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream Alum and Osage Rub Nice brush, good lather, decent shave, okay razor. Razor now in Tradesies Box.
John, what is your most preferred/least despised Gem SE ? I had a Damaskeene that I wasn't fond of but have an Ever-ready 1912 that I love. One thing to mention, not all 1912's are the same, I've seen many different variations go through my shop.
Lot of great photos and reports already today, gentlemen! Plus some amusing comments, postings and repartee. Far too much for me to be able to comment on with this slower-than-molasses BlackBerry mostly-doesn't-Play Book... I have enjoyed reading it all though, so thank you all for brightening my morning. Andrew @Linuxguile, glad Logan's problem is diagnosed and on the mend.
I would say my Gem 1912, EverReady 1912, Gem Junior (1912) and my Damaskeene are all not bad. The FW is alright. My 1914, three or four 1924s and the MMOC I can all shave with now if I really have to but only if I really have to. But I will take almost any injector or Gillette DE over any of them.
Thank you John! If you like the FW but would like it more if were a bit heavier you might consider trying a G-Bar. Of course if you really don't enjoy the Gem style SE's there are plenty of Injectors and DE's to spread the love!
It means they need more practice making lather the way GAWD intended. A rose by any other name.... If you want to bloom something plant a flower. Bully indeed. Using another one in a bit. Glad that is sorted out!!! Great advise.
