The Aristocrat Jr is a nice looking shaver, no doubt, especially in another ‘Jim’s Effect’ shot.

Back to the Kampfe Star. Switched the Treet Super back to it tonight for its third shave. Decided to use the El Caballero with the 30DC brush. Lather was no problem at all. Slick, cushy, instant. The Kampfe is a very interesting looking razor when it's loaded. That blade just sticks out and you know it's headed your way. Again, like the Gem Junior, the weight of the head of this thing is perfect once you're on angle. No added pressure, just let the razor do the work. Noisy, effective, FUN and provides a great shave.

Three full passes and the alum is barely warm. A couple of hot spots where I got a little heavy on the ATG, but other than that a very fine and bloodless shave. And the Treet blade? It will go a few more with no problems. Gotta love a shave like this.

So I didn't think the Assurance blade was that great in the Assurance razor. Passable, usable but not great. So I decided to try it in my favorite razor and see if it fared any better. Nope. Kinda tuggy, just not as sharp as I like. It removed hair so it did the job but it just wasn't enjoyable.

So for pass #2 I decided to try a good blade in the Assurance razor. I popped in a Perma Sharp Super and got a great second pass. So: the Pacific and the Assurance razors are both usable. The blades are functional but not great. For $1 each, they make good travel sets.

And no, I did not shave with Old Spice deodorant. I've found that the Old Spice deodorant holders fit my Arko sticks very nicely.

Good evening gentlemen! Some fine looking shaves today!

My alphabetical march through my blades has taken me to the Bic Chrome Platinum. It was ok. Not as smooth as the Astra. It was tuggy on my chin and jaw atg. If the Astra hadn't paired so well with the Bird I would have thought more highly of the Bic.

The PAA Gondolier whipped up a great lather! I find the PAA soaps take more water than the CK soaps to get to the consistency I like.

View attachment 165927 Not a MAYhemmy shave here, yet. Just getting reacquainted with my Piccolo. I'm enjoying the preshave soap. If not for any additional slickness it's a great shot of menthol. Used a Whipped Dog High Mountain badger for my attempt at lather. Soused the soap to facilitate loading but it just wouldn't pick it up like a synth or boar knot. Couple dribbles of water on the knot, agitation in the bowl gifted me with airy runny almost lather. It was a long day mowing in the orchard; sunshine, sweat, bugs. So I just accepted the sub par and shaved on through. Three passes, no extra clean up, a decent result anyways. The alum was quiet enough except for the 100mm long scratch (sounds better than 4 inches) from the corner of my mouth to lower jaw. I was zooming along on the lawn tractor and got close to a satsuma tree with some past winter freeze damage. Live branches flex, this one tried to fish hook me. Superficial damage so I lathered, shaved, alumed, and ASed right over it. Time for a pipe on the porch & listen to the crickets. And sirens. And some guy on a loud 4 wheeler.

Thank you Jason. I find the Feather Pro blades to be exceptionally sharp. If I place the razor against my face wrong or to quickly, I end up with a weeper or nick. There is no warning just blood. I would guess they are even more demanding in a shavette.

My father, age 78 on his next B-day, took a fall in his garage maybe 10 days ago. Didn't tell mom , me, or his doctor. He complained of a stiff neck & sore shoulder for a day or two. Mom noticed he wasn't eating regular like he's lost his appetite. Then he slept in his recliner on maybe second or third day after his unreported fall. He's done that before so no warning signs yet. Mom got him to go to bed that evening, but the next morning he couldn't get out of bed for the pain in is neck and shoulders. We call in medical transport that helped him out of bed and onto a gurney, and into the ambulance. An x-ray revealed no broken bones, the ER Doc suggested nerve injury, but not damage. So he's been recovering, feeling better, trying to not take the pain meds. He's a retired psychiatric RN and doesn't like what opioid addiction does to folks. That whole scenario put me in the seat of his riding mower. While he might putt around in no hurry to get the grass cut, I crank up the throttle, lower the deck for a shorter cut, and zoom around like I know what I'm doing. Remember when you were young and got injured? You wondered how long it would take to recover. Now it's a question of IF recovery will happen.

That Whipped Dog HMB is a good knot and I tend to use it for creams and soft soaps. If I choke up on the bristles it'll load a harder soap, especially if it's soused. I was tired from jouncing around in the satsuma trees. Dried out Crawfish chimneys all over make for a rough ride in a mower with no suspension.

I'm inclined to agree. At that price point, there's not much left to compromise on. Assuming the geometries are anywhere in the ballpark, it should shave.

There's an interesting thread over on B&B where some folks have been shaving with the Assured razor and blades. There have apparently been some cases of the razor starting to rust, something which didn't happen with the Pacific. Could this be a case of shaving off another penny or two of manufacturing costs by skipping a plating step or using an inferior metal?

Gonna use some brand new gear that I've never tried and just have FUN with it!

I'm thinking of pairing some gear together I've never paired before.

Time to go full dark side and learn straights - this is the month to bleed after all.

A total bloody mess may be in my future - stand by!

I'm playing it safe and eating as many cookies as I can.
