SOTD May 9, 2018 Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Razor: Schick L1 injector Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Blue Barbershop aftershave Nice and easy shave with the mild L1 this morning. This is an effective razor albeit one of the most mild in my collection. The Personna and the L1 battle for the meekest razor, but regardless it performs well and I enjoy using it. Soused the Jeeves again and whipped up gobs of lather with the Stirling Kong. Nice all around. Great photos and reports, everyone. Enjoy your day!
Back on East Coast time today, waiting for my body to catch up. In the meantime the tread produced more nominees... Sounds like a “Most Ill Advised MAYhem Idea”. If the initiator of the “Finger Shaver 1.0” calls it off, you know it must be a hot mess. Besides, I’m holding out for version 2.0 anyway. The photos this year are great! Another nominee...
Very likely. While razors of this caliber do work, one thing they are not is an heirloom. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk
True. While you could usually get away with leaving a vintage Gillette in the medicine chest for a half century or so without major issues, if you wanted to save one of these razors for future generations, you'd probably have to employ preservation techniques proactively. Sad commentary on the modern era- even our throwaway crap isn't as good as it used to be. :-(
May 9th CJB Shavette w Feather Pro First Canadian Maximo Gomez Cuba SS Finest Fan/ Maple Thayers Jeeves of Hudson St. Tobacco&Bay AS Nice lather this morning and two uneventful passes. I guess I’m about 9-10 single passes on this blade, and I think it has smoothed out a bit for me. Technique is getting a little better, but also just not that automatic cut for a slight (perceived?) error. Today’s cleanup pass provided by the MonoBilt. I think I’ll try two passes with the Pain Stick tomorrow and see how that goes. Finishing with this Jeeves splash always seems to be a good thing. Have a great day all!
Beautiful shot, Keith! Theres that Sapphire CH2 again! Stunning shot, Mark! Love the OS deo soap stick! now I'm going to have to be on the lookout for one! Great setup, Chris! Excellent shot, Jim! Ouch, sorry for the scratch and the thin lather Rick. Heres to next time! Hope you dad feels better soon! Very nice, Neal! This is pure genius! Beautiful LC Fuzzy! you need to get a wedge blade in that bad boy! Excellent shot, Ken! Wow! that is all. Excellent lineup, Jim! The L1 is like a Zamboni on ice! Superb photo, Perry!
Nice pic Jason! That aftershave has me intrigued. I do like bay rum. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
Thank you, Jim. This splash is very tobacco forward. I wouldn’t say it is all that close to a bay rum.
SOTD MAYhem 9th Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap Gillette Trac II CVS/Personna Hardright Anchorset (24mm, Frigate Class) Stirling Iced Pineapple soap and AS Stirling Glacial Unscented PSB Today was the first time that I have used a cartridge razor in two and a half years. I must say that the shave went better then expected, funny how proper technique can improve the use of any tool. I recall from my cartridge days that when I was using a M3 or similar pivoting head cart that it always felt like I was dragging sand paper across my face. I didn't get that feeling with the Trac II, maybe it was because the head doesn't pivot or maybe it was just because my face was too frozen to feel it. I was mindful of using the razor with no pressure and did two passes for CCS. The shave was definitely not nearly as close as any other razor in my arsenal but its plenty good enough for a work day. I will note that the lube strip on the cart left a gloppy gooey slime on my face that I didn't much care for. So I will be removing the lube strip for any future endeavors with this razor. The star of the show was the Stirling Iced Pineapple. Man I love this soap. No lie, it is my absolute favorite soap, #1, may have to order a backup tub (or two). ITS THAT GOOD! Have a great day my friends!
