    OMG..... Please Stop!

Now I must add Dove to my science project. So it is going to be Stirling Barbasol, Derby, Dove, and the revered Williams (used only as it was designed).

Dove better have that residual slickness I love, and sloshy it will be!

Most of this thread has been pretty "tongue in cheek", but that was actually a very interesting post. Thanks for passing it on @Linuxguile. I'd never thought about things from a brushmaker's perspective. I had been coming at it from my perspective in the food industry, which is a bit different.

As a food manufacturer, I have a lot of experience and understanding about the biology and chemistry of water, oils, and microbial growth, so my automatic thought is that water is a rich medium in which to quickly and efficiently grow nasties (bacteria, pathogens, mold, etc.). Despite most people's misconception that "water is clean", it's typically not. Although it can be made clean by proper treatment, filtration, and storage in a sanitary environment (preferably stored in a closed sanitary environment with a vacuum seal), the second it starts interacting with air and the physical environment around it, it immediately starts accumulating, growing and incubating things that you don't want on and in your body. I have an entire lab in our plant that seeks to reduce, eliminate, and monitor the impact of water in our operation because of this (as do most reputable food manufacturers in the US). Accordingly adding it to anything you plan to keep in ambient temperature storage in a closed container is almost always a bad idea.

Given both perspectives, I'd agree with Doug's statement above when he said, "I'm just trying to point out that every method entails some degree of compromise". Good point. Is the risk of nasties breeding in your soap tub enough not to souse greater than the risk of prematurely wearing out your brush? Let's be honest, if you are as OCD as most of us are, neither is likely to happen, so this is really a non issue either way. If you are using a good soap and a good brush, and not leaving water on the puck when you put it up, and not jamming the brush into the soap like a retarded monkey, neither of these actually poses a significant (or potentially even a real) risk. (Besides, I've seen you guys' dens; if someone were actually to prematurely wear out a brush, you'd have to revert to using your other 20 brushes while you gleefully anticipate the arrival of a new brush to take the place of the old one. Really, who are we kidding here?)

So, then, what is my conclusion? What it comes down to for me, is I'm a boxers guy. Not briefs, and certainly not bloomers. As I said on another thread, guys who call themselves "bloomers" need to stop using limp a wrist when whipping up lather and they'd have better results. Having said that, given all the feedback here, I may consider an occasional souse just to keep things interesting. It is MAYhem after all...

    In summary:
    1. Boxers > Bloomers
    2. Star Wars > Star Trek
    3. Zeppelin > Rolling Stones
    4. Tesla > Edison (research it; this is relatively indisputable)
    5. Dogs > Cats

This thread is not about maligning any soap. It's about softening whatever soap you like to use with water before loading. AKA Blooming.
I LOVE my vintage Williams. Yes, I bloom it, grate it and, although I strongly disagree with the term, molest it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

Now THIS is exactly the type of stereotypic comment, to which I referred in my proclamation. :rolleyes005: Where does this come from????
    Real men don't disparage Bloomers.

It wasn't meant to be stereotypical or disparaging. It was meant to be a humorous response to the comments made previously on this thread by your VP associating body wash, Barry Manilow and blooming together. Just like his comments, this comment was made for comedic value. That's also why I conceded in the next sentence that I may go in for an occasional souse after reading this thread. If my humor offended anyone, it wasn't intended to.

    Again my point was:
    1. Boxers > Bloomers
    2. Star Wars > Star Trek
    3. Zeppelin > Rolling Stones >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Manilow
    4. Tesla > Edison
    5. Dogs > Cats

What an absolutely marvellous society. May I humbly request the title and receive my credentials as Norwegian Ambassador to SBOA?

Seldom would the phrase of the UK (cockney) ambassador to the Norwegian King be more fitting, “I’m only a bloomin’ ambassador”. (Or maybe I just made that up, but who cares about such petty details when it fits the purpose so well?)

The Veep announces a preference of Williams over DB(Dove Beauty, not DB as in DB Cooper).

May I express my deepest gratitude to the President for having been bestowed this honour and pledge to always further the cause and mission of the bloom. Except with soft soaps, croaps and creams, obviously.

I have yet to wear out a brush by not blooming my soaps. I use horse badger boar and synthetic about the same way. I think synthetics are sometimes better with paintbrush strokes. Has nothing to do with being easy on the brush.

As can be seen in any or my videos I do not beat on soaps to make them work. With practice you bloomers can be real men too.

For the record I think back up cameras and park assist are for girls too.

You can shave with Ivory soap....or just about any other bar soap. That is just how some cover for not being able to use Williams.

If you fellas want soft soap, why do you buy hard soap???

Dove works quite nicely, so does Irish Spring, without "blooming".

Why not "Soap Bloomers of the World"?

    Or "Silly Sloppy Softies"?

Injure a brush on soap? Kiss my tail section!

Were working on that, don't fret. However, seeing that your application was already denied, don't get your hopes up in joining the national organization.
