When Fuzzy
@wchnu sent the Lather Catchers he also included a Simplex razor. An interesting little thing. The head is a plastic base plate with metal cap and the handle appears to actually be an older travel Tech handle. Looks like it could be fun. I decided to give it a run for MAYhem with a Voskhod in it. Stirling Gatlinburg and Omega boar brush for great lather and it shouldn't be a problem.
Shouldn't is a dangerous word. My first clue that I might be in for something other than a quick smooth shave was the alignment of the blade. I had to work on getting the blade evenly gapped on both edges. Looking at it gave me just a bit of pause. Just seemed like the blade was a little overexposed but, hey, I've used far worse. First pass, WTG, was fine. Seemed like the angle was very specific to keep it completely smooth and cutting. I stayed on the cap with maybe just a tiny tilt away and it seemed fine. Went back for the XTG pass and discovered two things. If you give it too much angle it will draw blood. As it did on my right jawline. And, if you set it down wrong the blade can cut. As it did next to my goatee on the right jaw/chin. More blood than I've seen in quite awhile. I did some touch up and called it good.
Alum was warm to hot depending on location. Definitely some irritation from this little thing. I thought I had the pressure off of it but I either didn't, or it just has an aggressive nature for a simple little razor. Styptic was necessary to stop the cut near my goatee and I dabbed the three spots on my jawline just in case.
The finish? It will work for tomorrow. Not as good as I usually get but I've had far worse. This razor could probably be a nice little travel/camping razor with enough work to learn it properly. So I'm not complaining. Just trying for a smidgen of sympathy.
