Thanks Jared! Soapy Science Lollypop Citrus is amazing. Easy to lather, slick with good cushioning, excellent post shave feel and I like the Lime/Citrus scent.

    -Colonial General SS
    -Yaqi 3 Band Silvertip
-Stirling Island Man Soap and AS

@Linuxguile - Here is my take on this brush after it’s initial use. My feelings about it are positive enough that I am willing to make some general comments:

Let me rank this Yaqi, on backbone alone, with the other 3 Band Silvertips in my den, one being the best.

    1.) Simpson
2.) Thater (1 and 2 are so close, it’s damn near a tie.)
    3.) Envy Supreme
    4.) Yaqi
5.) TGN Grade A (Yaqi and TGN almost too close to call.)
    6.) Zenith
    7.) Kent
    8.) Edwin Jaeger (Vulfix??)

You could almost make 3-6 a tie, or call them indistinguishable from each other. Plus after one shave on the Yaqi, it’s hard to tell. I don’t think the Yaqui was a disappointment in any category. It isn’t snobby, its preference.

    The way I see it......

Four or five years ago, when I became a shaving hobbyist, and there weren’t all of these choices, 2 Band was the new buzz word. Because Silvertip had been the pinnacle forever, it was king. But people (IMO) realized that maybe Finest, while it wasn’t something to brag about in terms of $$$, actually worked better, overall. And the 2 Band Renaissance was born.

That still doesn’t change the fact that traditional Silvertip is the softest thing out there. I will one hundred percent agree that the Yaqi Silvertips aren’t worth buying compared to their Finest. All the hair is chem treated now, all the tips gel up, why wouldn’t a guy want some backbone? But at the same time, these (3 Bands) have a face feel like no other. It’s the pillow of badger. I don’t haul sheetrock in my Towncar, and I don’t expect my F-250 to ride like a dream.

While I agree than any shave brush will work in any application, I have enough brushes now that I really pick them by condition of today’s shave. And there are times when man, I just love Silvertip.

TL/DR? I think the Yaqi 3 Band is a middle of the road silvertip, but a knot that performs above its price tag.

That’s so cool to hear. I have the Doc’s Blend, and am really impressed. I feel like its performance is right up there with some seriously top soaps, and its post shave feel is probably better than most.

I’m really happy for Hannah. However this all pans out, the girl learned some lessons that are gonna follow her in life.

Great report and photo Jared. As much as I like backbone and scrub there are times I like the luxury and softness as well.

I just returned from a long weekend in Hokkaido where I did not have internet access. I am honored to to be nominated for this award and thank the academy president and founder for the nomination.

Thanks, Clint. If we were talking about recommending a brush for a guy with a limited den, or a guy who wasn’t really sure what he wants, I think Silvertip places right up on top of the basement over Horse.

I feel like their are so many good synthetic options, at any price, it’s hard for me to recommend 3band.

    Except Best. Whole “nother” conversation.

Thank you for your opinion Jared. I now have had enough badger exposure to know what I like and it's got to have backbone. Now I'm really curious to maybe try out a Simpsons. I love my finest Badgers. I have two Yaqi 24mm(a bulb and a fan), a Maseto 30mm fan, and a Doug Korn/ Vig 35mm, all have tremendous backbone but are still super soft on the face. That big bloom/no backbone face feel just doesn't work for me.

Razor - 1918 Gillette Old Style
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Let's stay aggressive but sane again. How about the 1918 Gillette Old Style? A classic old aggressive beast that nearly made me stop shaving old style after only 5 days with it. That was, of course, over 4 years ago so I had no idea what I was doing back then. The Sharp Star blade is absolutely magnificent. Sharp, smooth, perfect and is to be respected in razors like the Fatip and today's choice of the Gillette. The Fat with the JR46 for the foolproof and quite exceptional lather. Nice!

Two passes, touch ups, even a bit of Gillette sliding on the neck to finish up. The baby is on board with no blood, slightly warm alum and a couple of hot spots but nothing more. Overall a fantastic shave with a feel from the past. Gotta love it.

Have you BBQ'd yet? None of that here. One more long day for the sale and this weekend will be over for me. Then just Tuesday and Wednesday regular hours to get to my two days off. I'm ready.

Nice 2 pass hotel shave early this morning. Everything worked as it should, but the blade is done.
Am back home now after a fairly long drive and am trying to catch up on all the great shaves, write ups and bbq’s.

Returned last night from 3 days in Hokkaido Japan. I took a long a stick of Arko, a synthetic brush, an Ikon SB and of course Feather blades. Instead of posting pics of the razor here are a couple of pics from my trip.
