Today's shave was with an Old favorite of mine. It is one of my first Straight Razors, that I successfully honed. I had an uncomfortable 2 pass shave, which is very very odd. It left me with a DFS, but 2 good bleeders. This is very unusual. The aftershave even stung, a lot. After the shave, I inspected the edge, and it looks like it had been raked across something hard, in the middle, about an inch worth of blade. Very odd, because I am meticulous about the edges. The only thing I can think happened is that one of the kids, or wife decided to handle it. It had been the most accessible on the dresser, for a while. Oh well, back to the stones for this one. If you look at the photo, you can even see the.damaged edge. Razor- Japanese "Cherry 92". Brush- Stirling Boar Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy Aftershave- Osage Rub

Ariana & Evans | Summer Fig APShaveCo. Elegant Emerald | SynBad 24mm Ever-Ready SE | Gem PTFE Chatillon Lux | Colbeck Just the mention of fig brings back bizarre childhood memories from Summers spent in my home town of Texas City. My demented aunt would chase off the neighborhood kids as they attempted to harvest fruit from her prized fig tree. I, of course, was granted full and favorable access to said fruit, and my propensity for overindulgence resulted in the inevitable gastrointestinal reprisal. Aside from that, I'm acutely familiar with what the actual ripe fruit smells like, and there was only one way I could imagine that translating to a soap fragrance. At this point, Peter Charkalis should be fully aware of my aversion to fruity fragrances, yet he insisted I give it a try. I already had my rant prepared, and it involved berating him for churning out an excessively sweet and fruity accord while calling it "masculine". Much to my surprise, Summer Fig utilizes and even showcases a realistic rounded fig note, but it doesn't dwell on it. Instead, the fig is gently intertwined with elegant jasmine but stops short of being fruity or floral. In fact, the accompaniment masterfully veils the individual notes such that bitter and sharp citrus are softened and darkened by sandalwood and oakmoss. The mellow fig is nestled in the middle, and finally rounded off by a civilized amount of musk. This fragrance is conspicuously familiar, but there's not a single product in my den that smells quite like it. Summer Fig is a masculine, nostalgic fragrance that, despite its complexity, avoids being weighty, and I imagine a paired splash or EdP would be quite wearable in the warmer months. Since I don't yet have the splash, I opted for cool crisp Colbeck in an attempt to mitigate the sweltering triple-digit temps in East Texas. I will be picking up the splash when these are released Saturday.
MAYhem 2018!!!!! May 31 Razor - Blade on a Bolt Blade - (2) Soap - Fatbac Brush - Semogue 620 Post - Alum Final night of MAYhem! Some great MAYhem shaves this month and I decided to take it out with one more round with the blade on a bolt. Can't let a Feather go to waste, so time to step back up to the plate. I chose Fatbac because, well, it's unique and it's also slick as grease mixed with oil and ice. The Semogue 620 brush so it's not too easy, though this lather makes anything easy. I actually kind of like using this little razor thingy. It's noisy, it chatters, it keeps you totally alert and on your game the whole time. I definitely don't recommend it for newbies or those without good angle control, but if you can get it down it's pretty awesome. Again, I took my time on the first set down to make sure I got it right. Worked WTG then XTG on the second pass. And, I gave it the third ATG pass as well. That gets a little challenging but I made it work. No blood, alum is a bit warm especially in a couple of spots, but the finish is a very nice DFS. I like it. Thanks for all the fun and support this month! Can't wait to see what we do with June!!!
