  1. I wonder if it is an issue with the knot itself or the bristles. FWIW, you could try the trick I did with my VdH boar: overnight soak in water with a few drops of Glycerin. The theory here is that the bristles may have dried out and are brittle. This was the problem I had when I stopped using my VdH daily.

    Nice handle, though.

  2. Many years ago, I visited Boulder, CO and was astounded by the friendliness of the people there. For a Jersey boy, it was almost creepy how cheerful they seemed. :)

  4. Bummer about the brush Andrew. On the bright side, the Yaqis aren't pricey. As for the shave itself....there's always tomorrow. We all have "those" days. Nice photo of the gear though!

Czech & Speake's version of lavender is quite a bit more complicated than my other lavender soaps.

    From their website:
Top notes̴: bergamot, peppermint and rosemary
Middle notes: English lavender and French lavender
    Base notes: oakmoss

This scent profile really takes the "lavender" to a much more sophisticated level.
Most everyone knows how well the soap performs and today was no exception.
After a shower-length blooming, I was rewarded with a rich, bountiful, shiny, slick and protective lather.
My vintage Gillette, paired with a 4-5 shave Personna 74 made quick work of my 24 hr. stubble.
I could probably get away with an every other day shave, but why? :signs002:
The B5 hair from Scott @Declarationgrooming is stupendous.
I had a B2, which seems to be the most sought-after and this B5 is every bit as good, if not better.
I finished with what I have read was Frank Sinatra's favorite scent, Agua Lavanda Puig.
I am ready for a set in Las Vegas.

  17. Today’s shave was brought to me by the following:

    Razor: Baxter of California
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
    Brush: Stirling Finest Badger Fan
    Soap: CRSW Le Chypre Sombre
    A/S: Chatillon Lux Unconditional Surrender

Very enjoyable shave. The CRSW lathered nicely, as their soaps always do. This was my first use of their tallow-based soap, and it didn’t disappoint. Except in the scent category. It’s not awful, but nothing spectacular either.

If, by chance, you’re considering a Stirling brush, don’t. At least not yet. They’re just way overpriced for the low quality they offer. If you absolutely MUST get one, fine….just wait a little while until I get a few more. I’d hate to see the price increase.

Three easy passes, nice and smooth. Finished off with a little splash of upscale stank, and I’m good to go.

  18. Yep, it's a nice looker. An Omega would fit the bill nicely, providing you want to keep it a boar.
