  2. That's where I found nearly the whole red, white, & green lines of Proraso. The owner was turned to wet shaving by a friend. Now he keeps Feather and Astra DE blades, half a dozen hand made brushes, and Merkur 3pc razors. I asked about getting Red AS lotion, and PSS in red and white. Maybe next time he restocks...

  8. Just the Basics June/Just for Fun June - take your pick

    June 7

Razor - Gillette New LC - Delta Echo Version
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (1)
    Soap - Soap Commander Fortitude
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum, Styptic

Time to switch from the Basics to the Fun for a few days. I want to try out a sample of Soap Commander I got since I've only ever used the Courage. The scent profile on courage is peppercorn, citrus and cedar and I do like it a lot. It's a pretty strong scent. Well, take out "pretty strong" and just insert "strong". It's one that sticks with me for awhile after I use it. I decided to try the sample of Fortitude tonight. The scent profile is Hay, Tobacco, and Rum. I liked the scent of the sample, but it is a milder scent and not quite as "in your face".

Since I'm having fun it's time to pull out the New LC, Delta Echo version, and give it a few shaves. Add a Voskhod and it's shave heaven. The LE brush for lather.

Soap Commander, as I have mentioned before, is one of the easiest soaps to load and get a lather out of. Incredibly easy, especially with a synthetic like the Tuxedo in my LE brush. The slickness is superb, and with the New LC in charge it was so smooth I actually kind of faded out and ended up cutting myself near my right ear. Nothing big, just a bad angle probably. Seriously, I was so into the smoothness and just relaxing into the shave I stopped thinking. Oops. Two passes and touch ups and, other than the small cut, it was the usual fine finish with this soap and this razor and blade. The after shave feel is great as well.

As I've mentioned before, Soap Commander is a soap I don't pay enough attention to. The Fortitude, while not as "in your face" as Courage, still had some afterglow with it and my wife loved it. A winner all around.

  9. Thursday June 7 - drugstore-ish

    Gillette SensorExcell (9)
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood Tuxedo brush
    Arko stick
Aqua Velva vintage Classic Ice Blue in glass bottle

Two passes; DFS. Not much more to say. I still can't put any weight on my leg for another three weeks or so. However I can now leave my splint off around the house, which means my leg now bends when I sit at the sink to shave. Turns shaving back from a major to a minor undertaking and makes it a pleasure again.
  10. Friends, my dear Mom went to be with The Lord yesterday morning. My Sister and I were with her. Thank you so much for your prayers and words of encouragement. That means so much to me. Thank you.

  12. John that is great news on being able to remove the splint at home. Even small things make a huge difference in how we feel.

  17. SOTD June 8, 2018

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick Proline AC
    Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Haven't shaved since Tuesday. It's been busy with activities and I've enjoyed it all. Today's shave was pretty nice. Great lather from The Fat and superb whisker reduction by the Black Hawk with Proline blade. Finished off with a healthy splash of American Blend and all is well.

We are going over to Tuscaloosa today to visit one of my wife's cousins. She works in the admissions office at The University of Alabama. We're going to take her to lunch and then she's giving all of us a grand campus tour. I've been there many times but it's always changing and developing and it'll be fun to see all the new buildings and campus initiatives. Roll Tide!

    Have a great Friday!
