    +1. It’s like raising the training wheels. Same process, just limits how thick of a skin graft you can peel.

    Welcome to the thread, and I apologize if I haven’t noticed you in it earlier. I’ve been sort of consumed by work lately. It’s a “watch, listen and learn” kind of place, but all the regulars are cool, and we have actually helped a few guys get some comfortable shaving into their lives.

    We are kinda like “Cheers” for wet shavers:

    @Keithmax is Sam
    @BamaSamurai is Frazier
    @clint64 is Coach (LMAO, had to do it )
    @RyX is tied for second with @wristwatchb for Cliff Claven, but I have them both beat.

    TECHNIQUE PRIMER:
    Concept #1 - Riding the Cap
    This was a difficult concept for me to understand as a new wetshaver, even with videos. The concept is this: basically most of us naturally want to use too big of an angle with the blade against our face, causing a scraping motion. This scraping will reduce facial hair, but doesn’t do so cleanly and causes lots of irritation in the process. So, if you think of your razor as being the letter T, you don’t want to drag the side of the top section across your face, but instead you want the top of the T to slide across your face almost flatly, with the edge just barely making contact with the skin. Riding the cap simply means feeling that top part of the razor (the cap) gliding across your face rather than feeling the blade scraping across your face. You just barely want blade contact.
    Concept #2 - Less Pressure.
    We all think we need to push down on the razor for it to cut. Years of cart shaving has taught us this. The best shave comes from applying no pressure at all on the razor and simply let the weight of the razor do the work. It is totally counterintuitive. Every time I reduced pressure and thought “now I’ve got it”, I eventually realized I was still using too much pressure.
    Concept #3 - Practice
    No matter how much you study or learn, you can’t learn to swing a golf club consistently by hitting one small bucket of balls. Similarly you can’t learn to hit a baseball consistently in one at-bat, and you can’t ski a black diamond run your first time up the mountain. Basic training only gets you so far, then you have to put in your time practicing in order to acquire these skills to where they become second nature. The 30 day concept recognizes this. Typically it takes at least 30 days to start getting decent (not proficient) at it. After one week, if you’re more concerned about getting a better shave than you are about razorburn, cuts and irritation, it sounds like you are off to a great start.

    It was freakish the CF was giving me problems, never happened before. Not sure if it was the lather or I need to touch up this blade. Still came out with an excellent shave.
