June "Great Shave" Focus

After a less than stellar shave yesterday, I am back in the saddle again.
New brush today. This Rooney (Style 3, Medium), which I snagged on that famous auction site.
I had to decide between this and the $8000 Bottom-Dial Fatboy. It was close, but I opted for the Rooney.
24mm/3 Band/Super Badger. The hair bears remarkable similarity to the Simpson Somerset Super Badger hair of yesteryear.
Also, in the manner in which the knots were set. Today, we see much deeper settings; preferences for Two Band,
which I believe is nothing more than the lower, lighter hair hidden within the handle hole.
**Experts, correct me if I am mistaken.**
The huge knot has a very soft face-feel, with zero scritch. Backbone is medium at best,
I am not sure I would want to load this brush onto a dry puck of MWF. Blooming is the order of the day.
Flow-through is ok, not as good as say a Thäter. There was quite a bit of trapped lather in the knot.
That doesn't bother me, but with these 'older' brushes, I don't like to squeeze the knot out too aggressively.
Popped a new Feather into the 1940 Milord Tech; watched my angle, and was rewarded with an excellent shave.
The vintage Aqua Velva won't win any scent awards, but I remember my father using it (before he graduated to Aramis)
so it brings with it some nostalgia.​

Okay, I'm a couple of days behind on updates. There was no shave on Saturday or Sunday. Yesterday was a decent shave with the TV Special and a German Wilkie; unfortunately, I'm not sure how long the blade had been in the razor, but it was a bit rough with the three days of growth. That blade is now in the bin and that brings us to today's shave...

The first time that I ever used one of the Dollar Store Dorco blades, it was early in my journey and I was using a 60s SuperSpeed; I was not fond of the experience. Later, I would try one again in a Slim on a fairly low setting; I still didn't like them. It wasn't until I tried one of the blades in a three-piece razor that I realized that they are a decent blade. Up until now, however, I haven't tried them again in a TTO. With some trepidation, I decided to give one a shot in a 50s SuperSpeed.

I needn't have worried as the shave was surprisingly smooth and very satisfying. Now, of course, I'm completely confused as to why my previous experiences using these blades in a TTO were so disappointing. One minor issue, I was trying to shave a couple of stray hairs on my earlobe and ended up nicking it. Sigh.

A side note to @NCoxSTL- I still want to see you try one of the Dollar Store Dorco blades in a Tech.

Another knock out shave with the Ambassador. Bumped it up to setting 4 and enjoyed a little more blade feel. Three passes brought home the baby with ease.

Checking in quickly. Our house went on the market yesterday and had a showing yesterday afternoon and another scheduled for today. We got it ready and then hit the road down to Mobile. We're leaving Wilson with the grands for a couple of nights and going over to Orange Beach, Alabama today. I have a conference there until Thursday. It works out great because we're not at home so the house can be shown whenever.

Shaved today with Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill. First shave since Friday. GEM G-Bar took off the whiskers with ease. Nice shave but no time for a pic.

The REX is really a great looking razor. I didn't really appreciate how good looking it was until you and Jim started posting pics of it regularly.

Thank you, Clint and Andrew. Recovery is going well, Andrew. I will be able to put weight on my leg and therefore start walking and driving again in about a week. In the meantime, my splint is off most of the time now and I am doing flexibility exercises to get my knee joint gradually loosened up.

That is really great news John. I know you'll be very happy to return to more normal activities.
