No. But it means that if I had to go the rest of my days with ony one, I would get an excellent shave every day. No matter which one it is.

Sure. And the whole world should only drive a Honda Civic.

  3. And that's why the world's best golfers use $100 set of golf clubs because they've realised they're all the same, why waste money.

All razors cut as close. The blade slides along the skin. How much closer can you get? You have technique issues. Until you correct them you can change razors and blades all you want and never get better shaves.

    Golf:Shaving = Apples:Oranges, no?

Personally I have a bunch or razors because: 1) I can, 2) I take interest in the engineering and aesthetic differences, 3) I enjoy the nostalgia of the vintage razors.

I'll admit that I have my favorites but I really don't think any one of them results in my getting a better shave.

I have a gillette super click that can be had for a few dollars. It will give just as good a shave as a $300 ATT. That is a fact. People buy the highend stuff to say they have it. It makes them feel better I guess. It does not in anyway do a better job. Anyone who says it does is an idiot.

Sure, I have one myself. And me, my wife and three girls will fit, in a pinch. But I won't be selling the van.

  8. I recognise I need to improve my technique (I said that on an earlier post).

I'm having a hard time believing all razors can give the same shave. That means same bbs smoothness and stubble appearing at exactly the same amount of hours afterwards on all razors (pause... pig flying past...unpause)

Everything I've read on this forum begs me to differ.

  10. You too. I do appreciate the comments and banter. I'm sitting in my garden in 28°C, eating a BBQ.

I would modify that slightly to read: "Every razor has the POTENTIAL to produce the exact same results."
Assuming that the razor is not a lemon, or broken, or whatever.

IF it can hold the blade still, even and securely, and the user is
competent, it can and should give you a BBS shave. Naturally there are other factors. User incompetence (not throwing stones), dull/damaged blade or poor lather.

Many of us are "collectors" and I count myself as one of them. I try not to be stuffy about it, but I have always enjoyed amassing things that I like.

Here's a good example. A great chef can make a gourmet meal using a cheap (but sharp) knife and cook it to perfection in a $10 pan.

I venture that this wouldn't be true if you committed long term to open blades. However, rushing through an SR is a risky proposition with heavy penalties for mistakes.

Enjoy! It's more like 34 and humid here today.

All razors are the same at skin-meets-bevel level. Just handles and varying degrees of blade safety. Results are almost entirely technique driven. Some razors are easier to master than others, but they all work just fine.

If I push my tech into my face (read - add pressure) it will cut me maybe a millimetre deep.

If I did that with an R41 maybe that's 2mm.

If I do it with my straight, I need staples/skin grafts on my cheek.

If I use no pressure, can each of them cut the hair flat to skin level? Yep. BBS. I can't go less - any closer than skin level would involve removing skin.

Maybe I can do, in one pass with a straight, what I can do in one and touch ups with a Tech. But with good technique, it is likely to be a closer race than that.

Let’s allow our friend, Mr. John 5 to demonstrate technique, on a cheap piece of equipment. I couldn’t do any of this on a custom Les Paul (mostly because I can’t play guitar at all). :)

  20. It all depends on your examples. You can't win the formula one in a honda civic now matter how good you are. But hat's off to Mr. John.
