Any chance you're joining us for Cinco de Julio?

  1. Of course. In fact, I save my popsicle sticks for just this occasion!

  1. Blade is glued with CA glue. I probably wouldn't trust just the glue or just the duct tape, but together it was firm. I'm not THAT idiotic...

  3. Three years ago, someone posted a video of someone shaving with this, with comments along the lines of, "I can't believe how crazy this is. Why would anyone do that?" One of our leading 30DC citizens made a suggestion that we check our technique with these contraptions, and a not so leading citizen did a double dog dare about it. This is our third year of celebrating Cinco de Julio by shaving with these guys. In the spirit of brotherhood, I would like to extend an invitation for you to join us, and build and use one tomorrow. Double dog dare you.

  4. Beautiful combo, Mark. This brush is a looker, but I love your beehive collection!
Great photo effect again, Jim. I've neglected my 40s SS, I've got to pull it out next week.
Another one that cleaned up great, Fuzzy! I have 2 Old Types, but I don't have a Single Ring. Is the head the same? Do they shave the same?
Awesome, Bruce! Finishing with Gentleman is always a good idea...
    Yup. Head lemming.
This has me thinking. I think I look at the head and my skin back and forth. I'm actually going to try to pay attention tomorrow.

  5. Fireworks can only be sold for about two weeks prior to the July 4th and two weeks prior to Jan 1 here. A war zone aptly describes what goes on both nights, but we usually get neighborhood shows a week or so before and a week after each day.

Now, when is someone going to make a burnt gun powder AS?

  7. I figured that you'd probably get a lot of questions, mainly along the lines of "Why would you use one of those?", but not many takers. It seems that most people complain about the high cost of cart refills, find traditional razors interesting, admire the low cost, but would rather complain about the high cost of cart refills.

  8. Thank you, Jason! The Cinco de Julio shave definitely would have earned a few comments this morning. The SS did a great stand in job.

  10. I definitely got a few odd looks the first few months there. It has been a fairly consistent set of guys showing up for the two years I have been there, so most of them know me by now. The novelty wore off for them.

  13. TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Vulfix badger brush
    Suribachi, cool water
    '55 Gillette red tip
    Astra SP blade
    Pinaud Lime Sec

I looked for my popsicle stick doohickey. No show, must have tossed it. Maybe a good idea since I didn't get a particularly rich lather out of the sample soap. It was nice revisiting the old DE. Three plus passes for an acceptable result. Splash of Pinaud to finish.

  14. Read your own shave report from today. Shaving is ALL skill and bevel control, and results are angle and pressure dependent, and are not related to the razor itself. In fact, almost all razor reviews are pointless, because MOST wet shavers don't actually know the correct techniques. Blade reviews are even funnier. Shim recommendations are the best.... ;)

  15. Extra points for use of duct tape! :)
    Great photo, Jason!

  19. Thank you Chris. I re-read my own report and nowhere in it does it say that I am a nut. (Now, that isn't to say that I am not, but a razor blade on a popsicle stick? Sorry buddy, I have too much beautiful face to lose.)
Besides, I am too busy writing razor blade reviews and honing my shimming technique.
    :p

  20. I did manage a few "recruits", but mostly just get questions. I don't bother to push, knowing that the majority don't have any interest in actually trying the traditional stuff. They are just curious. Of the ones who did make the leap, they aren't really hobby shavers. They like what they have and want to stick to it. That's cool too...
